Amanda Seyfried ‘Got the Offer’ for Gamora but Thought It’d Be Marvel’s First Flop and ‘I’d Never Work Again’: ‘It’s About a Talking Tree and Raccoon’

On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Amanda Seyfried revealed that she was given an opportunity by James Gunn and Marvel Studios to portray Gamora in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series. However, after careful consideration, the Academy Award nominee ultimately decided that the role wasn’t suitable for her.

Seyfried admitted she was quite apprehensive about the prospect of being locked into a long-term commitment, fearing the time commitment involved. She referred to it as a significant chance. She had recently met James for the first time and found him delightful. However, there were rumors that he might not remember their meeting, but she insists it’s accurate. She did receive an offer for the role, but after contemplating it for a few days, she was hesitant to spend six months of the year in London. Another project she was eager to be part of, titled ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West,’ directed by Seth MacFarlane, also presented itself as an attractive opportunity.

Additionally, we should keep in mind that starring in a Marvel film that flops isn’t beneficial for one’s career,” she went on to say. “I assumed that since this movie was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon, it would be Marvel’s first flop, and Chris Pratt and I would never work again. However, I was mistaken! But my actions were merely prudent, not courageous.

Zoe Saldana initially confessed that she was extremely fearful about joining “Guardians,” a film that ultimately became a blockbuster for Marvel Studios in 2013, earning an impressive $773 million globally. It’s worth mentioning that the character of Gamora was played by Zoe Saldana in this movie. The success of “Guardians” led to two subsequent films, both of which surpassed $840 million at the global box office. Moreover, Gamora, as portrayed by Saldana, also featured in other Marvel productions like the record-breaking movies “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.

Seyfried expressed her hesitation about the makeup process, stating that she found herself at a critical point in her career and didn’t want to endure the hardships of work. Spending four-and-a-half hours every morning seemed unappealing to her. At that time, she had some experience with green screen work, but it wasn’t something she particularly enjoyed or suited her. However, she has no regrets about her decision. She made this choice for herself, and it was beneficial for her both then and now.
