‘All’s Fair’ Gets a 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score as Kim Kardashian’s Legal Series Tanks With Critics

Hulu’s latest legal drama hasn’t had the strong start its creator and lead actor were hoping for. Although it’s likely to climb the charts soon, it currently has a 0% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and isn’t receiving much better feedback from viewers.

When “All’s Fair” was first announced nearly two years ago, many doubted whether pairing Murphy, Kardashian, and a large cast in a legal drama focused on women would work. Currently, those concerns seem justified, as both critics and audiences haven’t been impressed with the show.

I remember when All’s Fair first came out, Murphy really pitched it as a sophisticated, glamorous crime show for adults. And honestly, it looked the part – everyone agreed it was visually stunning! But a lot of critics felt that was all there was to it. Some even joked that the show was less a drama and more a really long, beautifully shot commercial for makeup, fashion, and hair products. It was definitely more style than substance, it seemed.

Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter suggests that while Eddie Murphy and Kim Kardashian share a certain chemistry, their pairing isn’t particularly successful. Han criticizes Kardashian’s acting as unnatural and lacking genuine emotion, mirroring the quality of the writing itself. In The Times, Ben Dowell was even more critical, stating the series fails to live up to its feminist intentions and instead becomes a shallow celebration of the very greed and vanity it claims to oppose.

Initial reactions to the show were largely negative, with some viewers calling it a failure and criticizing the writing and Kim Kardashian’s acting. However, Kardashian’s fans are defending the series, with some praising it as a fun, female-focused show and a welcome dose of campy entertainment. One reviewer enthusiastically declared that Kardashian ‘delivered,’ while others simply found it funny and enjoyable.

‘All’s Fair’ Followed Murphy and Kardashian’s ‘American Horror Story’ Collaboration

FX

Developed by Ryan Murphy and with contributions from Kim Kardashian, who starred in American Horror Story: Delicate, All’s Fair centers on a team of divorce lawyers in Los Angeles, all of whom are women. The series stars Kim Kardashian as Allura Grant, alongside Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Paulson (a frequent collaborator with Murphy), Glenn Close, and Teyana Taylor. Kardashian and several of her co-stars are also executive producers on the show.

Early in production of the series, Halle Berry left after only a week, and the reason wasn’t made public. Looking back, she likely feels it was a good decision, considering the negative response the series has gotten.

The new series, All’s Fair, launched with three episodes today, November 4th, and will continue to release episodes weekly through late December. It remains to be seen if the strong negative reactions will actually encourage more people to watch and decide for themselves if the show is as poor as critics say. We’ll get an idea of its popularity when the Hulu/Disney+ charts are updated.
