Since 2015, System Shock 3 has been stuck in a creative limbo, but Nightdive Studios is optimistic about sharing updates on the game with fans shortly.
As a die-hard fan eagerly waiting for news on System Shock 3, I’ve been following the developments closely. Recently at GDC, Nightdive’s Business Development Director Larry Kuperman shared some insights about the project’s intricate circumstances. He admitted that there aren’t any fresh updates just yet, but he hinted that things might become clearer within the next year. However, he also cautioned that it could take longer. Yet, what he did confirm is that we have grand plans for System Shock 3, and we’re focusing on what we can directly influence.
Additionally, he mentioned that although the re-mastered version of System Shock 2 is imminent, this doesn’t preclude Nightdive from creating a remake. Regarding the franchise’s direction post the release of the System Shock 2 remaster, it seems there are other potential paths for the studio to explore with both the original and second games. Keep in mind that a System Shock TV series is currently being developed.
Previously, OtherSide had been developing System Shock 3, but in 2020, Tencent assumed control not just of the game’s development, but also over the entire System Shock franchise. However, Nightdive Studios still holds the rights to the first two System Shock games.
I can’t contain my excitement! The System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is finally dropping for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 26th. This update brings improved character and weapon models, offers adjustable field of view settings, and ensures a smooth experience with widescreen support. I can’t wait to dive back into this classic!
