All Elemental Vessels in Visions of Mana

Fans have eagerly anticipated the launch of the fifth Mana game ever since it was teased as an upcoming title during the series’ 30th-anniversary live stream last June 2021. Now, with the game set to drop on August 29, 2024, Square Enix has started dishing out details about some of the Elemental Vessels featured in Visions of Mana.

Currently, three out of the eight Elemental Vessels unveiled in Visions of Mana have been disclosed to the public. We’ll keep you informed as soon as further details emerge regarding the remaining ones.

Based on Duncan Heaney’s explanation from Square Enix, Elemental Vessels function as instruments for players during battles, enabling them to execute abilities like halting time.

The Visions of Mana launch date trailer that was posted to YouTube on June 12, 2024, does allude to some of these elemental skills. Although Square Enix has described them as tools in their blog post, the trailer makes them seem like innate elemental skills that each of the characters has. The truth is that the Elemental Vessels are both a tool and a skill.

As a gamer, when I strap on my Elemental Vessel to my character, I gain access to fresh abilities that boost my progress in the game and give me a smoother time fending off adversaries.

Vessel of Darkness: Shade Sight

The object associated with the Vessel of Darkness is referred to as Shade Sight. According to game producer Masaru Oyamada in Square Enix’s blog post, when this ability is activated, it generates a black hole that attracts adversaries. The date announcement trailer provides visual confirmation of this function, depicting Soul Guard Val drawing an enemy closer with a beam of purple energy, indicating the use of gravitational force for this power.

From the blog image, it’s unclear if the Shade Sight artifact is exactly the dark purple, wand-shaped object with bat wing-like features at the top, as depicted in the Elemental Introduction video.

While Shade Sight can be quite advantageous, it isn’t always the case. If your adversary is heavier than you, this ability will draw you towards them instead of vice versa. In such situations, you must be prepared with a powerful skill to avoid any mishaps during the use of your abilities.

In addition, Shade Sight offers an extra perk: a black hole ability with a captivating area effect. Adversaries within the affected zone are drawn towards the point where you activate it, getting injured as the effect progresses. You remain unaffected, enabling you to maneuver freely and eliminate your foes while they’re suspended in mid-air.

Vessel of Earth: Gnome Shovel

This Earth artifact, referred to as the Vessel of Defense, is exclusively designed for protective purposes. It grants the user the ability to manipulate ground-formed elements, giving off an aura reminiscent of an Earth Bender from Avatar. With this artifact, you can create a shielding dome made of rocks, safeguarding not only yourself but also any companions enclosed within during battle.

In the Elemental Introduction video, you witness a combat method resembling a tank, where you employ rocks as both protection and offense. Essentially, you can pelt your adversaries with a barrage of rocks, inflicting significant harm when confronted by numerous monsters.

Controlling golems will give you an advantage in the game, helping you solve puzzles and overcome obstacles such as walls. According to Square Enix’s Elemental Vessels Introduction video, golems will be essential for unlocking new areas in Visions of Mana.

Vessel of Light: Lumina Lantern

1. In Visions of Mana, manipulate the Lumina Lantern’s reflection capabilities: Bounce the harm you inflict on one adversary to another! That’s quite nifty, but the most impressive feature this artifact possesses is its ability to damage multiple enemies simultaneously by activating its area effect.

To use the special area effect of this ability, the enemies must first be connected. Therefore, it functions as a two-step skill rather than two distinct abilities.

Of course, the fun doesn’t stop there.

1. Alternatively, you can utilize this object as a means to unveil luminescent pathways, enabling you to traverse regions that are shrouded in darkness or where one might easily get disoriented. To initiate the nearby pathway, simply interact with statues emitting a radiant blue glow using your lantern. A blue gemstone will then trigger the path. These passages are spacious and may contain valuable items scattered along them, making it beneficial to investigate if you spot an activation point.

What are Elemental Vessels in Visions of Mana?

1. To recap, eight Elemental Vessels are accessible within Visions of Mana. Upon locating these artifacts, they can be assigned to the game’s five playable characters, thereby altering their character class. The footage released by Square Enix hints at an exciting feature where players might swap between characters even during battle.

What makes the Vessels unique is that they do not merely modify a character’s classification on paper; instead, they influence the weapon selection, visual appearance, and other aspects of the character you assign them to. For instance, Val, the Earth Vessel, equips a sword by default, but when he employs the Lumina Lantern, he transforms into a Paladin class with a lance and shield. Moreover, when he utilizes the Shade Sight artifact, he sprouts a pair of horns!

1. Each class possesses its unique set of moves, and they can progressively uncover stats, weapon varieties, and special abilities. Outside of battles, the Vessels enable players to traverse areas beyond normal reach by activating hidden triggers scattered across the game’s environment.
