All Better Late Than Single matches & couples so far

The Fresh Start Instead of Never-Been-Kissed concept on Netflix is similar to Single’s Inferno, but it features participants who haven’t dated before. In this innovative show, the contestants undergo transformations, both physically and mentally, before being paired up in unique ways.

In recent times, Love Island UK and its US counterpart have been the talk of the town in dating shows. However, if you appreciate genuine emotions and witnessing timid singles blossom, then this might just strike a chord with you.

The basic idea is clear: All members of the Better Late Than Single group receive professional guidance on fashion, style, and dating. Subsequently, they are sent to a resort known as the “eternal singles,” where they engage in various activities and challenges designed to facilitate connections. Their ultimate goal is to find their first romantic relationship.

Every week, fresh installments become available, with Episodes 4 to 6 premiering on Netflix on July 15. To stay updated about who’s developing feelings for whom, here are the complete schedules and match-ups that have taken place so far.

Better Late Than Single matches & couples

First impressions

In the initial episode, soon after their introduction, each character privately votes for the one who made the strongest first impact. These were the choices they made:

  • Kim Yeo-myung chooses Noh Jae-yun
  • Lee Min-hong chooses Noh Jae-yun
  • Park Ji-yeon chooses Noh Jae-yun
  • Noh Jae-yun chooses Kang Ji-su
  • Kang Hyun-kyu chooses Kang Ji-su
  • Kim Seung-li chooses Kang Ji-su
  • Kang Ji-su chooses Kim Sang-ho
  • Kim Sang-ho choose Kim Yeo-myung
  • Yi Do chooses Ha Jeong-mok
  • Ha Jeong-mok chooses Yi Do

Indeed, an interesting twist – though they both received three votes apiece, neither Jae-yun nor Ji-su selected any of their matchups. On the other hand, Yi Do and Jeong-mok are the unique duo who chose each other. However, as Better Late Than Single is just beginning, there’s ample opportunity for their preferences to change.

Pick a drink

In this competition, during the morning meal, each participant selects a beverage – either coffee, tea, or orange juice. If two individuals from both the male and female contestants choose the same drink, they are paired for a date.

When it comes to tea and orange juice, you have just two options for each, but if you choose coffee, you find yourself in a situation of three simultaneous dates, with six different coffee combinations available for these encounters.

  • Kang Ji-su and Kim Sang-ho, who go to a tangerine farm to make jam
  • Yi Do and Kang Hyun-kyu, who go to a green tea cafe
  • Kim Seung-li, Noh Jae-yun, Ha Jeong-mok & Lee Min-hong, Kim Yeo-myung, Park Ji-yeon, who go roller skating

Individual dates haven’t turned out exactly as the specialists anticipated, since there appears to be a bit of misunderstanding in the area of communication.

In the three-person dating scenario, it appears that the chances of successful matches aren’t significantly improved: Jae-yun feels drawn to Yeo-myung, Yeo-myung seems to reciprocate feelings for Jeong-mok, and Jeong-mok finds himself attracted to Yi Do.

Indeed, as the hosts highlight, there’s still ample opportunity for relationships to develop. It’s simply a matter of patience as they grow more familiar with one another.

Game changer 1

After this series of dates, a fresh contestant named Lee Seung-chan enters the picture. At 31 years old, he’s considered a “game changer” because he has previously been in a 100-day relationship, making him less of a perpetual bachelor.

As a fresh face in this gaming world, I’ve been granted the chance to select two ladies for private conversations. I’ve opted for: [The names of the two women]

  • Kim Yeo-myung
  • Yi Do

Random spot date 1

In the initial phase of spontaneous encounters, the women are instructed to choose a location at random – it could be by the poolside, inside a tent, on the rooftop, or in a caravan. Subsequently, a male competitor will visit their chosen spot for quick 15-minute meetings. Here are the pairs who get to spend these moments together:

During the first round of unplanned rendezvous, women select a location at random – be it by the pool, under the tent, on the rooftop, or in the caravan. A male participant then joins them for 15-minute dates at their chosen spots. Here’s who ends up going out:

In the initial round of surprise meetings, women select a location at random – either by the pool, under the tent, on the roof, or in the caravan. A male contestant will then join them for 15-minute dates at their chosen locations. Here are the pairs who get to spend these moments together:

All three versions convey the same information but use slightly different wording and sentence structures.

  • Kang Ji-su and Kim Sang-ho
  • Lee Min-hong and Ha Jeong-mok & Noh Jae-yun
  • Yi Do and Kim Seung-li
  • Park Ji-yeon and Ha Jeong-mok
  • Yi Do and Kim Seung-li
  • Kang Ji-su and Kang Hyun-kyu

It appears that their initial encounter feels destined, since Ji-su and Sang-ho seemed to choose each other instinctively at first sight. Yet, their conversation seems a bit tense due to Sang-ho’s tendency to blunder with his words.

It appears that Jeong-mok and Min-hong are improving their relationship, yet Jeong-mok continues to favor Yi Do. Interestingly, Yi Do has a strong interest in Seung-li, whom she spends time with.

It turns out that despite Ji-su having feelings for Sang-ho, she ends up going on a spontaneous date with Hyun-kyu instead. As they chat comfortably, she finds herself growing fond of him.

The claw machine

In the “Better Late Than Single” competition, the participants discover a vending claw game at their resort. Within this machine are plush toys labeled with the gentlemen’s names. The ladies attempt to win the name tag of the man they desire for a date by operating the machine.

It’s a first win, first choice situation, with the order of matches as follows:

  • Kang Ji-su wins Kang Hyun-kyu
  • Lee Min-hong wins Ha Jeong-mok
  • Park Ji-yeon wins Noh Jae-yun
  • Yi Do wins Kim Seung-li
  • Kim Yeo-myung wins Lee Seung-chan

Thanks to the game changer, there are six boys but only five girls, meaning Sang-ho is left behind.

On their date, Ji-su and Hyun-kyu seem to click exceptionally well, their dialogue flowing more effortlessly than what she experienced with Sang-ho. However, she’s yet to fully determine her feelings towards the two of them; at this moment, they appear equally appealing to her.

In terms of Yi Do and Seung-li, they have a friendly relationship, yet Seung-li appears to hold a stronger affection for Ji-su. It’s not just this love triangle that’s developing; there are more romantic entanglements emerging as well.

Min-hong feels fondly towards Jeong-mok, yet it’s Yi Do who truly captures his interest. In a similar vein, Ji-yeon harbors feelings for Jae-yun, but those feelings are not returned.

Game changer 2

There’s no need to worry much about Sang-ho. Following a good rest, he has the opportunity for a date with a fresh, potentially influential participant in the game: Kim Mi-ji, a 27-year-old Japanese instructor.

In the end, they both seemed intrigued by each other, yet when given the chance for a private conversation later, Mi-ji chose Seung-chan.

Random spot date 2

On the next day, the men choose an arbitrary location for their dates. In the Netflix series, various scenarios unfold based on these matches.

  • Noh Jae-yun and Lee Min-hong
  • Ha Jeong-mok and Yi Do
  • Kim Seung-li and Kang Ji-su

Now, some couples are definitely growing closer. For instance, Jeong-mok and Yi Do are becoming more and more in sync, even landing not just one but two unexpected solo outings together.

Jae-yun and Min-hong don’t have romantic feelings for one another, yet their bond of friendship persists, and they decide to offer guidance to one another.

For Ji-su, her meeting with Seung-li turned out fine, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ideal. Now she’s puzzled about which of them – Seung-li, Sang-ho, or Hyun-kyu – could be the right one for her.

Punching challenge

Moving forward from the claw game challenge, the participants are greeted with a punching bag apparatus in their backyard this time. All the males participate in an effort to record the highest score, which will decide the sequence in which they can select someone for a date.

These following are the resulting matches, in order of who came first:

  • Kim Seung-li chooses Kang Ji-su
  • Kang Hyun-kyu chooses Kim Yeo-myung
  • Ha Jeong-mok chooses Yi Do
  • Kim Sang-ho chooses Kim Mi-ji
  • Noh Jae-yun chooses Park Ji-yeon
  • Lee Seung-chan chooses Lee Min-hong

However, here’s an interesting turn of events: These aren’t ordinary dates; they are double dates. The women decide on the activity they prefer, thereby deciding which pair of couples will enjoy that particular outing together. Let me present the pairs for the double dates:

1. Couple A & Couple C
2. Couple B & Couple D
3. Couple E & Couple G
4. Couple F & Couple H

Each activity will be shared by two couples, creating unique double date experiences!

* Ha Jeong-mok and Yi Do are two individuals named Kang Hyun-kyu and Kim Yeo-myung respectively.
* Noh Jae-yun and Park Ji-yeon can be referred to as Lee Seung-chan and Lee Min-hong.
* Kim Seung-li and Kang Ji-su are the same people as Kim Sang-ho and Kim Mi-ji.

In a moment, their friendly drinking session becomes tense as Seung-li and Sang-ho start competing with one another and challenge each other to drink more.

Secret date

In this case, each participant gets to choose one person they’d like to go out on a confidential date with. If no one selects them, they merely return home.

Here are the couples who do end up being picked:

  • Kim Yeo-myung and Noh Jae-yun
  • Park Ji-yeon doesn’t get picked
  • Lee Min-hong doesn’t get picked
  • Kang Ji-su and Kang Hyun-kyu
  • Kang Ji-su and Kim Seung-li
  • Kang Ji-su and Kim Sang-ho
  • Yi Do and Ha Jeong-mok

As a gamer putting words to my thoughts, I find myself puzzled when Sang-ho chose me over his previous signs of affection for Mi-ji, considering I’ve made it clear that I’m not interested anymore.

In the mix, some significant pairs are emerging, for instance, Yeo-myung and Jae-yun. It’s during a heartfelt confession that he makes to her that she finds herself developing feelings for him. As for Yi Do and Jeong-mok, their bond is growing steadily stronger with each dialogue they share.

Fan matches – who’s shipping who?

Just like the captivating show “Single’s Inferno,” I find myself daydreaming about my own imaginary pairings! It seems that everyone has their favorite couples they’d love to see together, and it’s fun to speculate based on the dynamics of the show.

As a fervent supporter, I’m cheering on Min-hong. I can’t help but hope for a clash between her and Seung-li. And guess what? I’m not the only one! Many others are rooting for Jisu and Seung-li too!

Right now, I’m hoping for whoever Jisu picks, but I have a feeling she and Seung-il would make a good match. Frankly, I’m surprised that she hasn’t shown more interest in him yet because he seems like the type she usually goes for.

It seems someone mentioned on a different site that they appear to be having one-on-one conversations in the trailers. So, I guess we’ll simply need to stay tuned and find out!

A third added, “I like Yeo-myung and I’m looking forward to her and Jae-yun’s chemistry.”
