It appears that many players turned their heads towards nearly a 10-year-old roguelike – Enter the Gungeon. Even though the title is no longer updated, it sold millions of copies and is spreading by a word of mouth, reaching new heights. It is very cheap now, and compatible with devices like Steam Deck, so it’s a great chance to venture into the Gungeon. Since it’s so accessible, many fans would like to try it out in coop. While the game offers such possibility, it’s limited to only local version of multiplayer. However, there is an easy way around it.
Local and online coop in Enter the Gungeon explained
The community’s interest in cooperation games has peaked recently, partially thanks to productions like astounding Split Fiction or hilarious and scary REPO. As this is the theme of first quarter of 2025, fans expect such an option from other titles, Enter the Gungeon included. While it does feature local coop for 2, it does not offer full-fledged online multiplayer.
The developers mentioned in their FAQ that adding an online mode to Gungeon was quite challenging and would take a considerable amount of time. Given that it’s a fast-paced precision game, any latency issues would greatly affect the playing experience. However, technological advancements have enabled them to overcome this limitation by using Steam’s Remote Play Together feature.
Despite the fact that there is no official support for online coop, life finds a way and will always do. While it is not ideal, you can still enjoy Enter the Gungeon with your one, favorite friend. Have fun!
