Alien: Rolumus' Rain Enters Dead by Daylight's Fog

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for the Alien franchise and its hauntingly terrifying creatures, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I heard about Rain joining Dead by Daylight. Growing up watching Sigourney Weaver’s fierce portrayal of Ellen Ripley and more recently, the captivating performance of Cailee Spaeny in Alien: Covenant, I never thought I would see them both in the same game!

On the very same day that the movie “Alien: Romulus” premieres on the big screen, August 16th, its lead character, Rain, will also make her appearance in Dead by Daylight! You can find her now in the game’s store, as a remarkable skin for the iconic survivor from the Alien series, Ellen Ripley. Interestingly, Rain is the first legendary skin within the game to hail from the Alien franchise.

In the film “Cailee Spaeny“, Rain is not just visually portrayed by her actress but also vocally, with Cailee lending her voice to the character. Furthermore, you’ll notice Rain’s likeness throughout the movie. During interactions with both survivors and killers within the game, Rain delivers lines in the lobby and various parts of the game, a trend that the team has recently adopted by adding voice lines for new survivors, even when they are only represented as legendary skins.

It was disclosed a few months back that the new character for the game had been unveiled prematurely. This revelation came after some data miners discovered a character named “Rain” in the game’s coding. Subsequently, hackers unearthed vast amounts of confidential information from Disney’s Slack channels, among which were early designs showing how Spaeny was portrayed as Rain within DBD. It should be noted that Rain is distinct from DBD’s Ellen Ripley character; in the game, Ripley does not resemble or have the voice of actress Sigourney Weaver, though there are significant similarities between them.

In the game known as Alien: Romulus Collection, rain features. However, unlike previous versions, no additional characters are introduced this time. The term “collection” implies that further Alien: Romulus character skins might be added in the future. This is exciting news for players who are fans of the Alien series and eagerly anticipate more content.

Although nothing has been officially announced, there’s speculation about a potential new look for the Xenomorph, set in Romulus, which could be called “Charred” or “Burnished”. This proposed change has garnered enthusiasm from fans as they eagerly anticipate the possibility of this revamped Xenomorph appearing alongside Rain in Fog.

regret not having a “burnt” alien figure like the Funko toy from the movie in the collection, but still thrilled about the rain! Great trailer, love it 💜

Dead by Daylight’s incorporation of Rain isn’t the only recent move by the Alien franchise into gaming. This summer, Alien: Rogue Incursion is set to arrive on VR platforms, offering fans a fresh perspective on battling Xenomorphs. Last month saw the release of Alien: The Roleplaying Game on Discord, making it more accessible to a wider range of players.

There’s certainly a buzz surrounding Alien at the moment, with fans eagerly anticipating the news. As of now, we only know that Rain is being added to Dead by Daylight, and there might be more characters from the Alien franchise joining the game. In cinemas today, 16th August 2024, is Alien: Romulus. Simultaneously, Rain becomes available for purchase in the Dead by Daylight in-game store.
