The upcoming trailer for ‘Alien: Earth’, an original TV series by FX, hints at a possible Alien vs. Predator showdown in the future. Set in the year 2100, this series follows a team of military personnel who are tasked with investigating a spaceship that has crashed on Earth and unleashed five distinct alien species. Although it’s likely that one of these creatures is a Xenomorph, we’ll have to wait and see what other surprises the soldiers will face.
Seven years following “Alien: Covenant,” the “Alien” franchise re-emerged in 2024 with the critically and commercially successful “Alien: Romulus.” While “Romulus” was a standalone film heavily influenced by the first two “Alien” movies, it opened up an engaging new chapter. Similarly, after Hulu’s “Prey” revitalized the “Predator” series, cinemas will once again witness the deadly Predators in “Predator: Badlands.” Intriguingly, the trailer for “Predator: Badlands” hinted at a significant link to the “Alien” universe, and it appears that the teaser for “Alien: Earth” may allude to the Predators as well.
Alien: Earth Refers To The Monsters As “Predatory” In The First Trailer
The Xenomorph Will Not Be The Show’s Only Threat
At the close of the trailer for “Alien: Earth“, one of the scientists refers to the lifeforms as both “invasive” and “predatory.” It’s not entirely clear if these terms apply to all five species or not, but the use of these words is intriguing. With the intertwined background of the “Alien” and “Predator” series, it’s hard not to connect “predatory” with the Yautja when used in an Alien project, particularly when discussing dangerous alien species.
While the main discussion about “Alien: Earth” revolves around ensuring the new show doesn’t contradict its existing lore by introducing a Xenomorph to Earth, I find myself more intrigued by learning about other lethal creatures that might appear. The Xenomorph is indeed the ultimate organism, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other equally fascinating and deadly species out there. It’s possible that the greatest danger in “Alien: Earth” may not originate from a Xenomorph at all.
It might add an intriguing twist to the series if the Xenomorph were portrayed as the “lesser of two evils.” In such a scenario, humans and synthetics could find themselves forced into an alliance with the Alien against other species. Notably, this arrangement would bear a resemblance to what transpired in the ‘Alien vs. Predator’ storyline.
Why An Appearance By A Predator In Alien: Earth Could Make Sense
A New Alien Vs. Predator Seems Inevitable, At Least On The Big Screen
It’s important to mention that although Xenomorphs belong in the Predator universe, none of the official Alien films have ever acknowledged their connection with Predators. The two series share a remarkable link, but the crossovers don’t quite align with the main Alien storyline. The AVP (Alien vs. Predator) movies have traditionally been regarded as non-canon, especially after Ridley Scott’s Prometheus provided insights into the Xenomorph’s genesis. However, given recent developments, a new, officially recognized Alien vs. Predator crossover seems highly likely.
Alien And Predator’s Upcoming Movies And TV Shows | Release Date |
---|---|
Predator: Killer of Killers | June 6, 2025 |
Alien: Earth | August 12, 2025 |
Predator: Badlands | November 7, 2025 |
Untitled Alien: Romulus Sequel | TBD |
It’s an exciting moment now that Disney has reintroduced both Alien and Predator under 20th Century Studios, as it offers a prime opportunity for these fearsome creatures, the Xenomorph and Yautja, to clash on screen once more. The teaser trailer for Predator: Badlands hints at Elle Fanning portraying a Weyland-Yutani Synthetic, which suggests that a blend of these two popular franchises is imminent in the not-too-distant future.
It’s still uncertain if the upcoming series “Alien: Earth” will feature or hint at Yautja-related species, but it seems fitting considering their deadly reputation from the show. I personally hope to catch a glimpse of a younger, possibly preliminary form of the classic Yautja character. This could provide a tantalizing taste of the broader Alien/Predator universe, leaving a full-blown battle for the big screen.
