On Alien Day, FX is unveiling a fresh trailer for the series titled “Alien: Earth“. The preview hints that there could be even more terrors lurking in space beyond just the Xenomorph. April 26th has gained notoriety among fans as Alien Day, named after the planet from the initial film, LV-426. Over the past few days, brief previews for “Alien: Earth” have been shared, yet fans were anticipating FX to announce the premiere date for the upcoming series on Alien Day. Although a release date wasn’t disclosed, fans received an exhilarating sneak peek into the series, franchise, and what’s to come.
In a brief 42-second snippet, we catch a glimpse of a spaceship filled with sections housing diverse alien entities, whose specific identities remain undisclosed. The narration informs us that this vessel amassed five distinct, lethal extraterrestrial lifeforms from the furthest, darkest recesses of the cosmos. The ominous tone continues as they’re described as “monsters.” A chilling moment ensues when a Xenomorph, reminiscent of a classic design, bursts forth from one of the containers and lunges towards the camera. Despite not providing an exact date, the teaser assures us that this thrilling event is set to unfold during the summer of 2025.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I was confidently expecting to see the legendary Xenomorph in the movie titled “Alien: Earth“. Initially, fans like me might assume these are just new variations of the Xenomorph, similar to the teases from “Alien: Covenant” or even the distinctive Xenomorphs from the toy line of “Alien 3“, which showcased Xenomorphs adopting characteristics of various animals. However, the surprising unveiling of five distinct species of Xenomorphs came as a shock, marking a significant shift for the franchise. This revelation implies that the Xenomorph is merely one of many terrors lurking in the universe, leaving us speculating wildly about what secrets “Alien: Earth” might hold.
What Horrors Lie Beyond The Stars
In the Alien franchise, two unique extraterrestrial species exist beyond the Xenomorph. One is known as the Engineers or Space Jockeys, depicted in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant as the creators of both the Xenomorphs and humans. However, due to their height difference with the creatures shown in the trailer, they may not be part of the species under consideration. Interestingly, another possibility could lie in a connection with The Predator, although creator Noah Hawley has stated that the series will not link back to those earlier Alien prequels.
Although Ridley Scott had previously chosen not to acknowledge the Alien vs. Predator films as part of the franchise, it seems that 20th Century Studios is choosing to integrate them instead. The trailer for Predator: Badlands confirms that Elle Fanning’s character is a Weyland-Yutani synthetic, hinting at potential crossover with Alien: Earth. Additionally, there are rumors suggesting that director Fede Álvarez may be incorporating a Predator into his upcoming Alien: Romulus follow-up. Given the variety of new aliens showcased in the Predator: Badlands trailer, it’s possible that we might see some overlap between the events depicted in both films. Furthermore, an animated anthology film titled Predator: Killer of Killers is set to air on Hulu this summer, potentially serving as a precursor to Alien: Earth. With these releases, it appears that 20th Century Studios aims to keep fans intrigued by both terrifying universes in the year ahead.
