Alex’s Shocking Journey: A Nightmare Begins in 1923 Season 2 Episode 3!

In the third episode of Season 2 in 1923, titled “Swaddle Yourself in Fear,” we witness two members of the Dutton family experiencing intense hardships. Elizabeth appears to abandon her life, while Alex undergoes grueling interrogation to gain entry into the United States. (Be warned: major spoilers follow!)

In Season 2, Episode 2, we merely caught a fleeting moment of Alex as her ship battled the tumultuous sea, water spilling in while she and fellow passengers shrieked with fear. Concurrently, Liz experienced agony following a wolf bite, necessitating numerous grueling rabies injections.

As the Yellowstone prequel unfolds, the struggles persist for these two ladies. One is resolute in her pursuit of reaching the Dutton Ranch no matter what, whereas the other longs to depart immediately.

But first, Jacob and his crew must survive through the storm and get back home safely.

Cara gives Liz a harsh lesson in 1923 Season 2 Episode 3

The story opens with Jacob and Zane hunkering down in a wagon as they continue to hide. They realize they must take action before the cold claims their lives, and Zane proposes setting fire to the wagon’s wood. Despite his concerns about Zane’s vulnerability and potential struggle to travel, Jacob listens as Zane argues it is the wisest course of action for all involved.

In the meantime, we find out what happened when Cara faced off against the wolf in a private encounter. Unsurprisingly, she emerged victorious, and the dead wolf’s body was left hanging outside their home.

Afterward, Cara stands on the porch and observes as the physician prepares to transport the body of his deceased nurse (slain by the wolf during the night) in a wagon. Subsequently, she ascends the stairs to administer another injection to Liz, who’s hiding in the bathroom.

Once more, Liz needs to be restrained for the injection, and Cara scolds her severely, reminding her about her good fortune to still be alive. (At this juncture, Cara is vying for a spot among the most remarkable Yellowstone characters.) She emphasizes that many others aren’t as fortunate.

Alex arrives at Ellis Island

Discussing unfortunate events, it’s high time we connect with Alex. Her ship has finally docked in New York, but instead of being able to leave right away, she along with other non-Americans are sent to Ellis Island. There, they are subjected to a lengthy, painful, and humiliating process for admission.

Outside the waiting area, she encounters another heavily pregnant woman. Unfortunately, Alex learns that immigration officials deny applications from pregnant women, as they are considered unable to work or contribute financially.

In a sequence of intrusive medical examinations, she was made to undress and endure uncomfortable procedures such as being touched, examined, and measured by an uncaring physician. Regrettably, her pregnancy didn’t survive this ordeal, and she was directed towards the next phase of treatment. (The situation was prolonged and hard to observe, with Alex crying tears of humiliation throughout.)

In the corridor, she subsequently comes across a cunning lady who advises her to either barter or acquire the means to enter America through some form of exchange or purchase. This woman seems to be implying that Alex could potentially use her relationship with one of the officers for this purpose. Enraged by this suggestion, Alex angrily reprimands her.

Alex makes it into New York City

Today has been a tough and lengthy ordeal, but eventually, Alex reaches the last hurdle: an interview. However, when she narrates her circumstances to the officer, he doubts her story about having a U.S. spouse; it’s a tale he’s heard numerous times in the past. Moreover, she lacks a marriage license or any concrete proof.

When he questions whether she can read at all, it’s the last thing that pushes her over the edge. With poise, she recites a passage from a book and delivers an emotional speech about how she has been treated like livestock, despite America being a country that prides itself on being the land of opportunity.

In the end, he consents to allow her entry, and she manages to do so without spending a penny on him.

Ultimately, she reaches New York and locates a map to determine the distance to Bozeman (which is quite far). Following a precautionary advice from the station attendant at Grand Central Station regarding her luggage safety and the chilly weather in Montana, Alex searches for a suitable spot to rest while waiting.

Runs His Horse makes friends with the cowboys

As I needed to ensure our campsite was safe for the night, I rode over to chat with the landowner of this place we’ve been calling home. Lucky for us, he welcomed our help during his upcoming cattle drive and graciously allowed us to remain right here.

Unfortunately, Teonna’s situation worsens since wanted posters of her are everywhere in town. Meanwhile, Mamie discovers Marshal Kent’s earlier disturbed Comanche campsite and finds it troubling. It seems that Mamie might have to act swiftly to locate Teonna before Marshal Kent does, as time may not be on their side.

Meanwhile, Kent deduces that Runs His Horse and Teonna might be searching for jobs with the cowboys. He sets off towards the cow camps in an attempt to locate them.

Liz breaks it off with Jack

Carrie stands by as the Doctor prepares to depart from the ranch, her concern persisting over Jacob and the young lads. Fortunately, they show up not long afterward, leading their horses with Zane and his kin on them. In a hurry, they carry Zane upstairs for treatment.

As I listened to the doctor’s explanation about Zane’s condition, I realized he was suffering from a subdural hematoma. This means that blood has accumulated in his brain. To address this issue, they’ll need to create a small opening in his skull to remove the excess blood. However, this procedure will require anesthesia due to its sensitive nature.

As Jack enters the bedroom, he sees Liz gathering her belongings. She’s preparing to leave, and urges him to join her, saying, “If you truly want to be my husband, be that man in Boston.

Jack claims the ranch as his home, yet he’s bewildered by her sudden shift in feelings. However, a simple observation of her receiving another opportunity should make it clear that she’s gone through hardships.

Spencer and Luca hit a roadblock

Ultimately, we find ourselves following Spencer and Luca, who are riding in Maceo’s vehicle en route to Fort Worth for an illicit whiskey delivery during the Prohibition era. However, their journey is interrupted when they notice a roadblock up ahead, where law enforcement officers are conducting vehicle inspections.

In a hurry, they dash into a barn, and there, Luca brandishes a weapon, coercing Spencer to carry on. Fearing for his life rather than losing it over some liquor, Spencer steps out and elects to traverse towards the closest railway station, intending to proceed with his voyage.

Due to not wanting to let down his cousin, both of them bid farewell. Yet, Spencer doesn’t travel far before hearing gunshots. Peering over the hill, he witnesses Luca involved in a brief yet intense altercation, during which police shoot him because he was attempting to pass with some alcohol.

Disheartened, Spencer sinks onto the lawn. Simultaneously, Alex finds herself back at Grand Central Station, composing a letter to Spencer about her accomplishments. Soon after, she heads into the women’s restroom. Regrettably, she fails to notice a shady individual lurking nearby, who subsequently follows her inside.
