It’s been learned by EbMaster that Focus Features has acquired the rights for distribution internationally of “Lurker,” which is Alex Russell’s first directorial project and a notable success from this year’s Sundance Festival, focusing on the topic of fame-seeking and its sinister aspects.
Film distributor Mubi had previously acquired the rights to show the movie in the U.S., reportedly for a significant sum in the millions, according to EbMaster.
Lurker” – A gripping tale of an aspiring hipster and the rising pop sensation he manipulates:
In this intriguing drama, Theodore Pellerin portrays Matty, a humble employee at a luxury sneaker and fashion store in LA. When his beloved musician (Archie Madekwe from “Saltburn”) walks in, Matty begins to ingratiate himself with the social media influencer. Before he knows it, he’s immersed in a world of indulgence and chances – but only as long as he maintains the hierarchy among the entourage and caters to the whims of celebrity. As fate would have it, everything that could potentially go wrong does, leading viewers on a grim journey through the seedy underbelly of contemporary fame. Joining Pellerin are Havana Rose Liu, Sunny Suljic, Zack Fox, and Daniel Zolghadri in supporting roles.
The people responsible for production are Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montomery, Galen Core, Francesco Melzi D’Eril, Jack Selby, Marc Marrie, Charlie McDowell, Madekwe, and Olmo Schnabel.
