As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve always been a fan of movies and their behind-the-scenes drama. The Alex Baldwin manslaughter case was one such spectacle that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The charges for manslaughter against Alec Baldwin, regarding the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust movie set, have now been concluded.

On October 21, 2021, Hutchins met his tragic end after being struck by a bullet discharged from Alec Baldwin’s firearm on the movie set for the western in New Mexico.

In the summer of 2024, I found myself standing trial for involuntary manslaughter, a charge that left me bewildered given my innocence. The prosecution’s strategy was to demonstrate that in the heat of the moment, I had acted recklessly and with criminal negligence when discharging the weapon.

In simpler terms, the case was thrown out by the judge on the third day because the prosecution neglected to provide the defense with a stockpile of bullets as required.

Manslaughter case ends, but civil case continues

Later on, Prosecutor Karri Morrissey chose to challenge the initial dismissal by filing an appeal. This was based on the argument that the bullets were not crucial evidence for the case. Yet, the state Attorney General’s office expressed they wouldn’t persistently continue with the appeal’s pursuit on behalf of the prosecution. Instead, they stated their intention was not to exhaustively explore this appeal.

In response, Morrissey chose to drop the appeal, stating through Variety: “This has been a quest for justice for Halyna Hutchins all along. We are saddened that Alec Baldwin will not be held liable for his part in Halyna Hutchins’ death, and as we withdraw our appeal, we do so with the hope that any remaining lawsuits might bring some form of justice to Halyna Hutchins’ family.

the unfortunate incident was indeed a tragedy, but Alec Baldwin did not break any laws. They emphasized that the legal system in New Mexico has maintained its integrity.

As reported by Variety, Hutchins’ family was informed prior about the decision to dismiss the appeal, which they disagreed with, and they are still taking legal action by filing a civil lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and the production team of Rust in New Mexico.

In a previous case, the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, was convicted for accidentally placing a live bullet into Alec Baldwin’s gun, which resulted in involuntary manslaughter. Currently, she is serving an 18-month prison sentence.
