As I read through this article, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for Alec Baldwin and the complexities of his life. Here is a man who has achieved great success in Hollywood, both on the big screen and on television, yet finds himself facing numerous challenges, both personal and professional.
The story first appeared on May 9, 2023. Subsequently, on July 12, 2024, Baldwin’s manslaughter charges were dropped. As a result, he gained his freedom. Hilaria stood by Alec during the entire court trial.

Towards the end of October 21, 2021, Alec Baldwin found himself alone in an interrogation room at the Santa Fe County sheriff’s office. He longed to connect with his wife, Hilaria, and called out softly, “Can you hear me? Can you hear me?”
Recently at the western set of “Rust,” Baldwin finished filming as the grizzled patriarch dealing with the consequences of an unintended killing. He then visited the sheriff’s office, wearing his bushy white beard for the role and a navy-blue T-shirt along with dark jeans, having swapped out of his bloody costume. Earlier in the day, Baldwin had accidentally shot the film’s director, Joel Souza, and cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, with an unintendedly loaded Colt .45. Souza was recovering in the hospital, but Hutchins’ fate remained uncertain at that point.
Baldwin once more phoned his wife to inquire, “How is everything back at home?” Upon reaching her, he added, “And how are the children doing?”
“The kids are great, the kids are great,” Hilaria said before Alec cut her off.
“Wait a moment, please,” Alec requested of Hilaria. He inquired if she had shared the recent events with their oldest child. She hadn’t. Initially, Hilaria and their kids were supposed to travel to New Mexico to join Alec. Their 8-year-old daughter was even set to film a minor role. Unfortunately, Alec now needed to remain in Santa Fe to converse with the lawyers and investigators who had just started untangling this complicated situation. “Would you still not want to come tomorrow?” he questioned his spouse.
“I don’t think it’s a great idea,” Hilaria said.
I have observed Alec Baldwin throughout the years, and while he has been no stranger to controversies, both minor and major, this current situation strikes me as something entirely different. His voice trembled as he tried to find the right words to express the sheer horror of what had happened – a genuine tragedy where he took the life of an innocent woman, standing mere feet in front of him.
“I’m so sorry,” Hilaria said. “You must be so traumati — ”
“Alec firmly replied, removing the phone from speaker mode and speaking directly into the receiver. ‘I’m not someone who wants to continue doing this as a livelihood,’ he declared emphatically. ‘I don’t want to be in the public eye anymore.’ He spoke with newfound conviction.”
After the unfortunate incident that took place over a year and a half ago, where Baldwin unintentionally killed a cinematographer named Hutchins during filming, he continues to come to terms with the fact that this tragedy is now an indelible part of his identity, despite all his other accomplishments. Last month, Baldwin returned to the set of “Rust” in Montana, where he’s working to complete a movie that most people involved would prefer to move on from. If circumstances had been different and Hutchins had not been killed, “Rust” would have already been released quietly into obscurity via video-on-demand. Instead, Baldwin faces involuntary manslaughter charges, and the film has become a central aspect of a legal settlement with Hutchins’ husband. The grim hope is that enough people will be drawn to see the movie that led to Baldwin taking a life, so the proceeds can be used to establish a trust fund for Hutchins’ 10-year-old son.
During this challenging experience, Alec Baldwin has repeatedly expressed that Hilaria took charge of his life and was instrumental in helping him get through the past 18 months. The Baldwin family, which includes their seven young children, had already been gaining attention for their home life prior to the Rust shooting incident. Though the Baldwins chose not to contribute to this article, they have consistently shared their journey of the last 18 months on social media platforms like Instagram. Everyone handles crises differently, and it seems that the Baldwins have chosen, for good or bad, to document their experience publicly. On the day following Alec’s arrival in Montana, he received positive news: The criminal charges against him were being dismissed. In celebration, Alec uploaded a hazy image of Hilaria from their early relationship on Instagram. “I owe everything I have to this woman,” Alec wrote, adding a note of gratitude to his lawyer. Later that day, Hilaria posted an image of herself cuddled up in Alec’s arms, creating a contemporary interpretation of the Pietà scene.
I, Hilaria, gathered my children and departed Greenwich Village the day following the tragic shooting incident, with no clear plan except to find refuge from the relentless media camped outside our apartment building. Eventually, we found ourselves in Manchester, a quaint little town nestled in southwestern Vermont, where my family’s history could be traced back to before the American Revolution. My husband, Alec, joined us there, and for a brief moment, we savored some peace and quiet. However, it wasn’t long before the paparazzi located us, documenting our every move – picking up pizza, shopping at Ralph Lauren outlets, searching for our missing cat in the rental home’s backyard. After several days of being pursued by a dozen photographers, we pulled over on a secluded country road, hoping to grant an interview and put an end to their intrusion. Alec took the lead with the talking, while I captured the conversation on my phone and interjected at key moments. “Please,” Alec begged, “my children are crying in the car.”
“Because you guys are following them, and they know,” Hilaria said.
“Out of respect for you, I approached you to discuss something,” Alec explained. “Could you kindly stay back as we leave now?”
“Go home,” Hilaria said. “Go home!”
After the commotion subsided, Baldwin came across an engrossing “New Yorker” article from 2017 titled “The Regret and the Shame of the Unintended Killer.” In this piece, author Alice Gregory delved into the lives of individuals who unknowingly took a life: An elderly gentleman pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes; a baby was left unattended for a brief moment; an unexpected gun discharge. The article left Baldwin feeling disheartened. The individuals in Gregory’s story faced challenges returning to work, losing contact with friends, and enduring public criticism. They grappled with disturbing dreams and hallucinations (“There was this voice: ‘You don’t deserve to feel joyful. Remember the last time you felt happy?'”). Many were haunted by a relentless desire to retrace every detail of the event, tormented over minor ways the calamity could have been prevented, and seeking redemption. One woman, temporarily blinded by the sun right before hitting a motorcyclist, petitioned her state’s attorney for imprisonment.
Baldwin expressed deep remorse. “I took a life with a gun in Santa Fe today,” he admitted during his first questioning. “Believe me, I’m as distressed as anyone could be about it.” Upon learning that Hutchins had passed away, Baldwin reacted with disbelief and sat in stunned silence for over a minute before leaving the room to contact Hilaria once more. He kept dwelling on how Hutchins’ death might have been prevented, frequently waking up from restless sleep due to gruesome nightmares involving gunshots. Several members of the Rust team and Hutchins’ relatives took legal action against Baldwin and the film’s other producers. Donald Trump Jr. capitalized on the situation by selling T-shirts: “Guns don’t kill people. Alec Baldwin does.”
After unfortunate incidents where they unintentionally took lives, such as Michael Massee who accidentally killed Brandon Lee on the set of “The Crow” in 1993, many individuals opt for seclusion from the limelight. Massee, the only contemporary movie set fatality victim besides Brandon Lee, was unaware that a projectile resided in his gun’s barrel at the time of shooting. Following this tragic event, Massee paused his acting career for a year and kept silent about it in public for over a decade. “It took me as long as it needed to – not necessarily to understand it better, but to progress,” he expressed in 2005.
The Baldwins aren’t fond of staying quiet following the shooting incident. In the aftermath, Alec became active on social media once again, sharing evidence of a Rust crew member assuring safety on set and expressing his opinion that productions should employ law enforcement officers to handle weapons. David Simon, the creator of The Wire, reacted with “Dumb” to this. Hilaria also resumed her online presence. Ten days after the shooting, on Halloween, they were still in Vermont when Hilaria posted a picture of their children in Wild Thing costumes with Alec, captioning it as “Parenting through this experience has been quite an intense journey.”
As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but reflect on Alec Baldwin’s account in his 2017 memoir, “Nevertheless,” where he admits to having a tendency to intervene and believe I can solve everything. This trait has led me into some challenging situations in the past. After the tragic shooting on the Santa Fe film set, I found myself compelled to engage with law enforcement and share my theories or concerns. Despite the chaos at home with my children crying in the background, I felt an urge to assist in any way I could.
About six weeks following the tragic shooting incident, Baldwin chose to participate in a high-profile interview on ABC during prime time. Some close to him, including Hilaria, voiced concerns about this decision as they believed he wouldn’t be able to present a defensible stance without appearing defensive. During the interview with George Stephanopoulos, Baldwin expressed that he didn’t wish to portray himself as a victim and emphasized the primary tragedy: Halyna Hutchins’ death. However, he also viewed the incident as something that had befallen him. He mentioned that they both held a deep belief that the gun wasn’t loaded. Baldwin pointed out that he aimed the gun at her only for aligning their shot and was following her instructions. He asserted that he hadn’t pulled the trigger. As the interview neared its end, Stephanopoulos questioned whether Baldwin felt any remorse. Baldwin replied that he did not. “I believe someone bears responsibility for what transpired, yet I cannot point fingers at who that is,” Baldwin stated. “But I am certain it’s not me.”
Warren Beatty once shared with Baldwin that a typical issue for actors is the urge to turn every moment in front of a camera into a significant one. Baldwin’s tears were authentic, but performing on television, where he had appeared numerous times before, seemed at odds with the solemn reflection and legal advice required in this situation. Hilaria defended her husband on Instagram, stating, “We are raw, unedited, and wear our emotions openly.” However, public sympathy for Baldwin began to wane after his interview. Following a lawsuit filed by Matthew Hutchins against Baldwin and the film’s producers, Hutchins appeared on the Today show to voice his anger. “Watching him,” Hutchins stated, “I just felt enraged. The notion that the person pulling the trigger, leading it to discharge, isn’t accountable is preposterous to me. Listening to him blame Halyna in the interview, shifting responsibility elsewhere, and witnessing his tears – I can’t help but wonder, ‘Should we genuinely feel sorry for you, Mr. Baldwin?'”
After the ABC interview a few days prior, the Baldwins were strolling on East 70th Street in Manhattan when they ran into Jon Levine, a New York Post reporter. Levine began filming as the Baldwins neared a townhouse belonging to Alec’s friend Woody Allen. “Mr. Baldwin, who’s inside?” Levine inquired. Alec, upon exiting Allen’s house, advanced towards Levine. In earlier times, an umbrella might have been jabbed into Levine’s stomach by Alec. This time, however, Hilaria intervened and steered Alec back to the door while telling Levine to leave. Hilaria subsequently shared a video of the incident on Instagram. “I may face more criticism, but I don’t want to live in fear,” she penned. “My husband has suffered from PTSD for quite some time now, and it’s worsened recently. Some individuals exploit this by provoking him, attempting to aggravate his mental state. It sometimes succeeds. I attempt to shield it.”
For many years, Alec had a contentious rapport with the media, but following the events of “Rust,” observers noticed a change in him. According to David McGlynn, a longtime photographer for the Post, Alec appeared more worn down and less defiant. In his place, it was Hilaria who became confrontational with the press and acted as a protective shield for her husband. The Baldwins’ social media accounts showed an unending flow of encouragement from each other, with Alec emphasizing the importance of family, and Hilaria vowing to stand by him no matter what. In a heartfelt post on her husband’s birthday last year, Hilaria asked if she would have left their relationship given all that they had been through when they first met, eleven years prior. Her answer was clear: “I’d do it a million times, Alec.” When criminal charges were ultimately levied against him, Hilaria bravely faced the assembled photographers, wearing pearl-studded slippers and a top bearing the word EMPATHY.
In 2011, Alec first encountered Hilaria at a Gramercy restaurant. Instantly drawn to her, he took her hand and expressed his desire to know her better. Hilaria was the vibrant 27-year-old co-owner of a bustling downtown yoga studio, while Alec, at 52, felt discontented. In 2007, a leaked voice message revealed that Alec had left a derogatory message for his then-11-year-old daughter, Ireland. The public backlash forced him to contemplate suicide. However, the acclaim from his role as Jack Donaghy on “30 Rock” helped him restore both his career and reputation. On a personal level, Alec yearned for companionship and grieved over what seemed like a vanished dream: a large, Catholic family, having grown up in one himself with five siblings. Hilaria exuded self-assurance and charm, and offered the possibility of filling this void. Before they had even shared a kiss, Alec asked if Hilaria desired to start a family right away – and she did. They lived together three months later and married the following year, their wedding bands bearing the inscription “SOMOS UN BUEN EQUIPO”: “We make a good team.”
Alec Baldwin’s initial marriage fell apart due to his wife, Kim Basinger, preferring a tranquil existence contrasting to Baldwin’s long-standing attachment to New York City. In essence, Baldwin has been juggling between the glamorous realm of Hollywood and the vibrant streets of his beloved city for decades. He engages in everyday activities such as buying coffee beans from Zabar’s or joining protests at Occupy Wall Street, or even engaging in minor disputes over parking spaces. (The Post: “Furious! From New York! It’s Alec Baldwin!”) As the city’s most productive host, he regularly broadcasts for the New York Philharmonic, hosts a weekly podcast on WNYC, and has hosted SNL a record-breaking 17 times.
Hilaria didn’t hesitate to embrace public life with Alec. She started working as a correspondent on “Extra,” where Alec’s friend was in charge, and released her first yoga DVD with Alec making an appearance. In 2013, Alec defended Hilaria against false reports by a Daily Mail reporter, jokingly threatening to tweet during their funeral. Later that year, when a paparazzi harassed the couple while they were bringing home their newborn, Alec was accused of using a derogatory term towards him. Hilaria tried to diffuse the situation and extended an olive branch by visiting the New York Post office and doing a downward-dog pose on their reception desk. She expressed her belief that New Yorkers work too hard and the New York Post could use some relaxation and peace.
Hilaria consistently maintained a infectious enthusiasm throughout her motherhood journey. Following the birth of their first daughter in 2013, she expressed her desire for another child to Alec. Their second child was born two years later, followed by two more in quick succession. In an unexpected turn of events, they welcomed another child just six months after announcing the last one’s arrival. Hilaria shared her daily life on Instagram, where she promoted various products such as skin care and dolls. Her yoga teaching took a backseat, and she began sharing prenatal workout routines from her bathroom in the Hamptons. Alec continued to do press for his movies and television projects but found himself increasingly featured alongside his family in magazine covers. He appeared elated to have finally achieved the large family he had long desired, despite the occasional overwhelm. During an interview on Ellen in late 2020, Alec failed to recognize three out of four of their children in a series of baby photos.
Towards the close of that year, the Baldwins shifted from being a source of public fascination to an amusing reference for the COVID-19 era. An anonymous Twitter user remarked just before Christmas, “It’s impressive how dedicated Hilaria Baldwin has been to her 10-year deception, pretending to be Spanish.” Hilaria had previously appeared in Hola! USA magazine, and their children were given Spanish names: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo. However, it was later discovered that Hilaria’s birthplace was actually Boston, where she grew up as Hillary Thomas. The scandal sparked discussions about cultural appropriation but mainly provided entertainment for people cooped up at home during the first pandemic winter, eager to analyze videos of Hilaria’s adopted Spanish accent. In a popular clip from her cooking segment on the Today show, she looked at a thin green vegetable and asked, “What do you call this in English… cucumber?”
Hilaria’s scandal led to her securing the cover of “Post” magazine with the title “It’s All Bull,” accompanied by an altered image of her as a matador. This incident significantly impacted her flourishing influencer career in wellness and parenting. Her podcast, which she co-hosted with Daphne Oz, ceased to release new episodes. A dedicated Reddit community focused on Hilaria (and consequently, Alec) scrutinized their social media activities, fueling speculations: Was her yoga physique the outcome of other surrogates?
In response, the Baldwins stood firm and unyielding. Their newest additions, the Baldwinitos, bear Spanish names including Ilaria, their youngest, who is named after her mother. Hilaria acknowledged being of white descent but emphasized her strong connection to Spain, having spent much of her childhood there. “What one absorbs growing up is a personal experience,” she asserted to The New York Times. Alec took to Instagram for an extensive statement, avoiding confrontation over the facts and instead focusing on his unwavering support for his spouse. “When you care deeply about someone,” Alec expressed, “you feel compelled to protect them.”
“Once again, I find myself in misery,” Alec expressed to his Instagram audience at Kennedy airport a few months following the Rust shooting. He was preparing to board a flight to Heathrow and explained his tired eyes, acknowledging that he was still having difficulty sleeping. On top of his personal struggles, he found himself entangled in controversies as usual – the kind that left one in awe of his audacity. After resolving a legal dispute over a parking lot altercation, he found himself as the defendant in a defamation lawsuit filed by a woman whom he had labeled an “insurrectionist” on Instagram after discovering she had attended the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Now, he was at his least favorite place (the airport) preparing to do something he disliked even more (travel alone) in order to fulfill a commitment in London – his first since the Rust incident.
In this scenario, I followed the story of a movie titled “97 Minutes,” which was a thriller with an even smaller budget than “Rust” about a hijacked airliner. I took on the role of the National Security Agency director, assigned to bring down the plane safely in the film. The main creative force behind this project was Pavan Grover. By day, he was a spinal surgeon in Houston, but by night, he wrote screenplays. His plan was to shoot the in-flight scenes on an airplane from “Lost” that he had bought at an auction. Movies like “Rust” and “97 Minutes” represented a change for me, as they were less prestigious than my previous projects where I worked alongside Meryl Streep for extended periods without special effects. The filming for “Rust” was expected to last only 21 days. During a call with a Santa Fe County detective, Baldwin shared his past experience of making movies for lengthy durations, contrasting it with the planned short shoot for “Rust.”
Alec Baldwin has consistently struggled with his acting career, expressing disappointment over not having starred in a remarkable film directed by a renowned director like Scorsese or Spielberg. With accomplishments including action roles, an Oscar nomination for “The Cooler,” and multiple SAG Awards for “30 Rock,” he yearned for a leading part in a truly exceptional movie. In his own words, he once longed to be “Leo,” referring to Leonardo DiCaprio. By the time Baldwin began producing “Rust” in 2021, his only theatrical release that year was a sequel to “The Boss Baby,” where he portrayed the title character. The premiere saw his family wearing suits and ties, but there were concerns among marketing teams about international recognition of Alec Baldwin’s image for “Rust” promotions at Cannes.
The shooting incident added to Baldwin’s struggles. In front of the media, Baldwin expressed indifference towards acting, stating “I truly don’t care about my career anymore,” to Stephanopoulos. Simultaneously, he voiced his concerns to the police regarding the ongoing investigation hindering his work. He shared with detectives that once one’s name is linked to something undesirable, opportunities for collaboration dry up – “Nobody wants to work with you anymore — nobody,” Baldwin lamented. Reports suggest that he has been dropped from as many as seven upcoming film projects since the shooting incident.
Grover shared that film investors put pressure on him to remove Baldwin from “97 Minutes,” following his controversial interview on ABC. According to Grover, things became a bit challenging after this incident. However, they persisted and Baldwin came prepared to film. Despite the set losing power and requiring him to warm up by a fire, Baldwin didn’t grumble. Grover checked his temperature to ensure he didn’t fall into hypothermia. Baldwin disliked being separated from his family but found comfort in returning to work. Critics harshly judged him for doing so, but from a medical perspective, establishing a routine is crucial during trying times.
Baldwin understood that “97 Minutes” wouldn’t be his breakout role like Leonardo DiCaprio’s, but filmmaking had always held a blend of artistic and financial appeals for him. Raised working-class on Long Island, Baldwin wrote in his memoir about being fixated on the notion that money could solve most problems. Previously commanding seven-figure movie deals, he was now earning $150,000 for “Rust,” with an extra $100,000 investment in production. As he waited for his flight to Heathrow, Baldwin admitted, “In the last several years, particularly the last five years, I’ve worked very little – and that’s been a challenge. I probably need to work more, regardless of where that may take me.”
As a cinephile and someone who’s followed the Baldwins’ journey for years, I can attest to their financial security. However, they long for a specific New York lifestyle that comes with its own complexities. One person close to them described it as having “a lot of overhead.” In the past year and a half, they sold their upstate house for $530,000, listed their Hamptons home for over $20 million, and purchased a farmhouse in Vermont for $1.7 million. The costs of nannies and their eldest children’s tuition at a private Spanish immersion school add up to approximately $160,000 annually. Three more kids are expected to join them soon. Sending all seven Baldwin kids through NYU, where Alec and Hilaria met, would cost over $2 million. In 2019, during an episode of Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series, Alec shared his desire for “more money.” He explained, “I want more money so I can leave it to my wife when I’m gone because I don’t think I have much longer to live.”
“What amount of savings would make you feel financially secure if you weren’t able to work anymore, Nealon wondered aloud, could it be two million, five million, or even ten million?”
As a cinema devotee, I pondered over the financial aspect of raising a million for each kid’s education and future, plus ensuring my wife had a minimum of 30 million in clean cash upon my passing. But who knows, maybe that was just the starting point? Baldwin spoke these words, leaving me to wonder about their true intentions. Later on, he joked that when Hilaria moved on with a new partner, all I’d desire is for her to weep profusely in bed every half year: “He left me $40 million in cold hard cash!”
One key insight from Gregory’s New Yorker article, which Baldwin’s lawyers referenced, is the insidious nature of chance. Humans often underestimate the fact that tragic incidents are usually outside our influence. For Baldwin to end up pointing a loaded gun at someone on a film set, an unfortunate chain of events had to unfold. He had been involved in countless fake shootouts over the years, including being the one firing the blanks. In their court filing, Baldwin’s lawyers showed a picture from the Rust movie set depicting Travis Fimmel aiming a cocked revolver at a 15-year-old actor portraying Baldwin’s grandson. The message was clear: it could have been any of them. Jensen Ackles, who plays a U.S. Marshal in the film, explained to the police that they were about to film an actual gunfight next. “Was I going to engage in a shootout with Alec Baldwin, using live ammunition?” Ackles wondered. “Were we about to be riddled with bullets?”
As a seasoned investigative journalist with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of complex criminal cases that hinge on seemingly inconclusive evidence. The case against Alec Baldwin in the tragic shooting incident on the set of “Rust” is one such enigma that has left many scratching their heads.
In the central query of the case, the prosecutor’s office remained stumped: How had a genuine bullet found its way into Baldwin’s gun instead of the intended dummy rounds? These fake bullets, which resemble real ammunition but lack gunpowder and cannot be fired, were meant to be used. They usually contain a small BB that produces a rattling sound when shaken, making them suitable for close-up shots. In the fateful scene, Baldwin was supposed to pull the gun from his holster under his armpit and aim it at the camera. However, when medical personnel extracted the item that had pierced Hutchins and lodged in Souza’s shoulder, they identified a bullet as the culprit.
From where did the fatal bullet originate? Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer for the production, explained that the lethal bullet came from a box marked “DUMMY ROUNDS” which was delivered to the set on that day. The team often procured dummy and blank ammunition from a local vendor for regular restocking. Gutierrez-Reed recounted that she took one of the rounds from the box and shook it while proceeding towards the set, intending to hear the telltale rattle of inert BBs. However, she later told authorities that the assistant director, David Halls, was speaking into her earpiece, urging her to bring the gun to the set promptly. (Halls, who handed the gun to Alec Baldwin and pleaded guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon, received six months of probation as punishment.) It appears that somehow, a live bullet ended up in the “DUMMY ROUNDS” box. The investigators discovered five additional live rounds scattered around the set, including one in Baldwin’s gun belt, but have yet to ascertain how they arrived at the scene.
The prosecutor’s office made several blunders without any external pressure from Baldwin’s legal team. At first, Baldwin was accused of a firearm enhancement which increased his potential prison term from 18 months to five years. However, this law was enacted in 2022 – following the Rust shooting incident. Additionally, the district attorney appointed a special prosecutor, Andrea Reeb, who was campaigning for a seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives at the time. Baldwin’s lawyers argued that her involvement violated the state constitution and that she had personal motivations to prosecute the man who mocked Donald Trump on television. Reeb reportedly emailed the DA during the election, suggesting they announce her role “as it might help in my campaign lol.” She eventually stepped down from the case, and after Baldwin’s attorneys presented evidence that suggested his gun had been altered, the prosecutor’s office dismissed the charges, intending to further investigate and keeping open the possibility of re-filing them. (Gutierrez-Reed, who has pleaded not guilty, still faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter.) After the news surfaced, Hilaria was spotted by paparazzi outside the Baldwins’ apartment building, wearing sweatpants with the words OH, HAPPY DAYS.
Many legal professionals and impartial viewers have believed for a long time that this situation would be more appropriately handled in civil rather than criminal court. In the previous 18 months, Baldwin and the other producers of “Rust” have been hit with numerous lawsuits from Hutchins’ husband, her relatives, and several crew members. Baldwin has disputed some of these lawsuits, arguing that one of the plaintiffs had initially cleared him of blame right after the incident occurred.
He too understood that action was necessary to help Hutchins’ family, and Baldwin took the initiative in pursuing a financial settlement with her husband and son. The producers, including Baldwin, were primarily safeguarded by the establishment of an LLC which possessed only one valuable asset: the film. Completing the production of “Rust” might have seemed distasteful, but it was a common practice in Hollywood.
On Instagram, Alec frequently pays tribute to his admired figures: Anne Heche, Colin Powell (who should have been the first Black president), James Caan, Bob Dole. In March, he honored the actor Robert Blake. Tragically, in 2001, Blake’s wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, was fatally shot while seated in Blake’s car outside a restaurant. He stood trial for murder but was eventually found not guilty. Subsequently, his acting career came to a halt. “I acknowledge that many have harbored strong negative feelings towards him,” Baldwin penned down. “However, today, I choose to remember him as the exceptionally talented actor he once was.”
After the tragic event that marked the lowest point in his life, Baldwin is focusing on how to prevent the unfortunate incident of killing a woman from being the headline of his obituary, as it was for Massee in “The Crow.” His current priority is completing “Rust” by the end of this month. Baldwin has grown back his beard and donned new western attire to film a movie that is now under production, with paparazzi swarming around, capturing pictures of Baldwin being led to a gallows for an on-screen hanging. Following the release of the film, there will be a lengthy wait, during which painful memories are likely to resurface and scrutiny may renew. Additionally, Baldwin is collaborating with a documentary team headed by Rory Kennedy, RFK’s daughter, who comes from another prominent Catholic family that has experienced tragedy and turmoil and whom Baldwin has always respected.
Over the past year, Baldwin has expressed that his priorities lie solely with his family. Despite attempts at co-hosting a podcast, “What’s One More?” with Hilaria following her accent controversy, production ceased after the tragic shooting on the set of “Rust.” Last year, Hilaria initiated another podcast, “Witches Anonymous,” which Alec endorsed on Instagram. However, this show only released ten episodes before it came to an end. Since the incident with “Rust,” Hilaria has resumed her previous social media activities, such as posting a headstand photo while pregnant. She’s also been vocal about bridging societal divides through a post that read: “The vaxers and anti-v, the dems and repubs, the Sox and the Yankees … the celebs and paps.” For her 39th birthday this year, Alec asked followers to follow Hilaria on Instagram as a gift to help her surpass one million followers.
As a movie buff looking ahead, I can’t help but ponder the possibilities. Maybe Spielberg will reach out or Michaels will invite Alec Baldwin back for another stint on SNL. But the truth is, there are only so many prime roles left for him to snatch up. His family has taken center stage, and his recent work in prestige movies has been more about cameos – appearing on SNL as Lady Gaga’s host, interviewing the main character of Tár for his podcast. It seems that the next chapter of Baldwin’s life will largely involve playing… himself.
“Sleep in separate rooms!” Cuomo said. “That’s a choice.”
It took Baldwin a moment to get the joke. “Oh, you mean that — oh God, oh God,” Baldwin replied.
“You’re certainly securing a legacy,” Cuomo said. “But you better keep working.”
“Baldwin announced that he would soon start working as a greeter in Las Vegas… “Do you recall me from ‘Beetlejuice’? It’s nice to meet you all! Table No. 9, please, for Frank,” he added.
