A cutting-edge artificial intelligence named Claude, specifically a novel large language model, is trying to outdo the challenge of beating Pokemon Red. Audience members are immersed in the ups and downs of Claude’s journey as it progresses through this iconic video game.
The initial releases of Pokémon Red and Blue in North America happened back in 1998; however, these classic games continue to captivate the hearts of Pokémon enthusiasts, regardless of the numerous new titles that followed throughout the years.
It seems that Anthropic opted for Claude, their analogue of ChatGPT, because of its replayability factor and familiarity. This AI system employs a combination of text-based logic and image recognition to navigate through the well-known video game.
At the beginning, by June 2024, Claude found himself discontented as a Pokemon player: he often attempted to flee from Pokemon battles, something that can’t be done, eventually composing a letter to formally ask for a restart of the game due to being trapped in a dead end.
Initially, these endeavors had their share of amusing incidents as well. On one particular instance, Claude found himself stuck in a corner and, assuming there was a malfunction, humorously submitted a formal plea to restart the game.

Huge Claude improvements
In October of 2024, Claude achieved a significant milestone as he overcame his competitor and advanced beyond Pallet Town, marking a major leap forward for this up-and-coming player.
By 2025, Claude had achieved significant progress. He managed to defeat both Brock and Misty, two initial Gym Leaders, and later challenged Lt. Surge as well.
Instead of wandering aimlessly or getting trapped in loops like previous models, Claude 3.7 Sonnet proactively plans, keeps its goals in mind, and adjusts when initial approaches don’t work – a crucial set of skills for overcoming pixelated gym leaders and tackling real-world challenges alike.

Now, Claude AI’s efforts are being livestreamed on Twitch for the world to see.
Currently, I’m streaming Pokemon gameplay, and as I type this, around 2000 viewers are rooting for me as I struggle with a tricky Jigglypuff. It seems like it has some sort of sleep-inducing move that keeps putting my Pokemon to rest.
Previously, it took Claude approximately five hours to navigate through the lush Viridian Forest, a fact that gamers would recognize as rather implausible.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at how far AI has progressed from its humble beginnings, and I eagerly anticipate Anthropic’s role in propelling this technology to unprecedented heights within the captivating universe of Pokémon. Their goal is to mold it into a formidable force, striving for the ultimate achievement – becoming the Pokemon Champion.
