After Winning So Many Emmys For The Studio, Seth Rogen Is Bringing Back The Muppet Show In A Special Way

Seth Rogen had a fantastic weekend! His Apple TV+ show, *The Studio*, broke records at the Emmys, winning 13 awards – the most ever for a comedy series in its first season. And there’s more good news: *The Studio* is coming back for a second season, and his other Apple TV+ series, *Platonic*, will air in 2025. Now, Rogen is also bringing back *The Muppet Show* next year, but not as a full series – it will be a special event.

Seth Rogen is creating a new Muppet Show special for Disney+, set to release in 2026, as reported by THR and other sources. Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter will star in the special and also help produce it. The project is timed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show, and the creators hope it will lead to a full revival of the series.

The Muppets first appeared in 1955 with Jim Henson’s show, *Sam and Friends*, but they didn’t become true stars until *The Muppet Show*. This variety show, featuring different guest stars each episode, gave Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and the rest of the Muppets a chance to shine. It ran for five seasons and is now available to stream on Disney+. While *The Muppet Show* was popular on television, the characters also started appearing in movies like *The Muppet Movie* and *The Great Muppet Caper*.

Disney+ offers a wide range of popular content, including Marvel, Star Wars, and the Muppets. You can start streaming with ads for as little as $9.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $15.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $159.99 for a full year. Check out the deal here!

As a big Muppets fan, I’m really excited to see they’re making a fourth project just for Disney+! It all started with *Muppets Now* back in 2020, a really fun, improv-based series that ran for six episodes. Then came the hilarious *Muppets Haunted Mansion* special in 2021, and more recently, *The Muppets Mayhem* in 2023 – though sadly, that one only lasted a season. It’s interesting to remember that they actually tried to develop another show a few years ago, called *Muppets Live Another Day*, which would have been a continuation of the story after *The Muppets Take Manhattan*, but it never ended up happening. Still, I’m hoping this new project will have a longer run!

I’m really excited about the new Muppet special Seth Rogen is producing with Sabrina Carpenter and his team. It feels like Disney hasn’t given The Muppets the attention they deserve lately – I was bummed when *The Muppets Mayhem* didn’t get renewed. I’m hoping this special is fantastic and maybe, just maybe, it’ll bring *The Muppet Show* back for good. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

We’ll find out if this *Muppet Show* special will actually air when the 2026 TV season begins. But good news for Muppet fans visiting Walt Disney World next year: the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will be getting a Muppet makeover and reopening after *Muppet*Vision 3D closes.
