After More Than 10 Years, Far Cry 4 Just Got A Major Update On PS5

Ubisoft has subtly improved Far Cry 4 once more, now allowing the game to run smoothly at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5. Interestingly, the Xbox 360 version of Far Cry 4 previously ran at 60fps on Xbox Series X|S using the FPS Boost feature, but this functionality was subsequently deactivated. This month, Far Cry 4 is set to join Game Pass, which may also prompt a new upgrade for the game.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the recent news that Far Cry 4 on PS5 is now unlocked from its previous 30fps cap, thanks to some graphical enhancements (as shared on Reddit). This latest move by Ubisoft aligns with their recent pattern of revisiting older games. Just this week, Splinter Cell: Blacklist received an update for Steam achievements, and not too long ago, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate got a 60fps patch on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. It’s exciting to see these classic titles getting a fresh lease of life!

Moving forward, the spotlight is shifting towards the Far Cry series as Ubisoft has restructured their company by creating a new subsidiary solely dedicated to Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises. This change comes with Tencent, who invested $1.25 billion, now holding a minority stake in the subsidiary.

The latest Far Cry game launched was Far Cry 6 in 2021, and there have been whispers that Ubisoft aims to revamp the open-world structure of the franchise for its next two installments. One of these alleged gamesa multiplayer shooter with a focus on extraction, code-named Project Maverickis said to have been restarted, while work apparently goes on for Far Cry 7, codenamed Operation Blackbird.
