A follow-up to the popular series WandaVision is now unlikely due to recent changes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. WandaVision is widely considered one of the best shows Marvel has produced for Disney+, alongside hits like Loki and Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel is developing two spin-offs from WandaVision. Agatha All Along followed the show’s villain after the events of WandaVision and brought back one of Wanda and Vision’s sons, Billy. Vision Quest, planned for 2026, will feature White Vision and reintroduce their other son, Tommy. However, neither of these projects will be a direct continuation of the WandaVision story with Scarlet Witch, and a true sequel might not happen.
How A New Marvel Update Makes WandaVision’s True Sequel Nearly Impossible
Jac Schaeffer is a key creative force behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was the driving force behind the hit series WandaVision and created the popular spin-off Agatha All Along. Initially, she was also set to lead development on Vision Quest, but she had to step away because working on both projects simultaneously proved too difficult, as she explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jac Schaeffer, a key figure in the success of Marvel TV in recent years, is leaving to work with Amazon MGM Studios. According to Variety, she’s signed a three-year deal where she’ll be involved in all stages of TV show production – from creating and writing to directing and producing – for both Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. This means Marvel will need to find a new direction without her leadership.
As a big fan of WandaVision, I was really hoping to see Beau Schaeffer return to Marvel to continue Scarlet Witch’s story with Elizabeth Olsen. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s not going to happen anytime soon. I just learned he won’t be working on any new MCU shows for at least the next three years, which is a real disappointment.
Marvel’s True WandaVision Sequel Could Still Happen In A Different Way
Although someone else could potentially create a sequel series focusing on the Scarlet Witch, who was the main character of WandaVision and hasn’t had a follow-up yet, it’s hard to imagine that being successful without Jac Schaeffer, the original creator. While a full TV series seems unlikely now, Schaeffer could still find a way to bring the Scarlet Witch back within the next three years.
Elizabeth Olsen’s deal with Amazon MGM Studios doesn’t prevent her from potentially starring in a sequel to WandaVision as Scarlet Witch at Marvel Studios. Given how popular Wanda Maximoff is, a big-screen return makes sense. This would allow Vision and Agatha Harkness to continue their stories on television, while Scarlet Witch gets a proper WandaVision sequel as a feature film.
