After 38 Years, Princess of Moonbrooke Finally Gets a Canon Name in Dragon Quest Remake!

It seems that after a 38-year gap, the Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake is reportedly going to bestow a name upon the princess of Moonbrook. The initial Dragon Quest games were launched in Japan back in 1986 and 1987, making them earlier than the first Final Fantasy game and paving the way for future fantasy role-playing games to emerge. Notable characters like the princess of Moonbrook were introduced through these classic games.

In the second installment of the game, the mysterious princess played a pivotal role, but until now, she hadn’t been given a name. Recently, new sneak peeks of the upcoming remake of DQ were shared on the PlayStation blog. One of these images showcases the hooded princess conversing, and in this snapshot, her dialogue box clearly displays her name as Peronel at its top.

The Princess Of Moonbrooke Finally Has A Name

38 Years Later, Her Name Is Now (Potentially) Canon

In the adventure known as Dragon Quest 2, the Princess of Moonbrooke plays a significant role, boasting powerful magical abilities. She teams up with the Prince of Midenhall in their mission to locate the notorious wizard Hargon, seeking retribution for his attack on the kingdom of Moonbrooke. Interestingly, three of the main characters from this story don’t have official names as per canon: the Prince of Midenhall, the Prince of Cannock, and the unnamed Princess of Moonbrooke herself.

In the original Dragon Quest 2, the three other characters didn’t have individual names; instead, they were assigned a name from a list of eight options that related to the player character’s name. However, it appears that in the upcoming remake, these characters will be using the names they had in the non-canonical mobile game, Dragon Quest Tact, rather than the original names based on the Hero’s name.

The Prince Of Cannock Might Also Get An Official Name

Dragon Quest HD-2D Remake Might Give All Its Characters Canon Names

If the characters in the upcoming HD-2D title have been assigned official names, as suggested by its similarity to Dragon Quest Tact, then it’s probable that the character known as the Prince of Cannock will also receive an official name, possibly Rickerd. However, there’s a chance that the game could stick with the random naming convention used in the 1980s titles. But given that the Princess is named Peronel, it seems more likely that the characters’ names will be fixed this time.

Last year, the mobile version of the game was discontinued, but it appears that Personel’s name continues to be her official title in the forthcoming “Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake”. Pre-orders are currently available for this game, slated for release on October 30 across the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
