As of today, it’s been 17 years since a new 3D platformer game in the Banjo-Kazooie series was released (and 27 years since the very first game came out). With no signs that Rare or Microsoft will revive the franchise, one passionate fan decided to create a new game with the help of a friend.
Fans of the classic game Banjo-Kazooie have created an impressive single level called Mumbomania using the game Dreams, available on PlayStation 4 and 5. It’s so well-made that the original developers themselves praised it!
The team behind the Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania level uses the online names Eupholace and PieceOfCraft. Eupholace, also known as William Butkevicius, was the lead developer. He currently works at Moon Studios and built the level as a personal project in his spare time. He doesn’t plan to expand on it, and says he’s likely finished with large-scale Dreams projects—unless he gets the chance to contribute to a proper Banjo-Threeie.
That’s not all, as the trailer for Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania was shared by Rare with the comment:
Put our fanciest hat on just so we could tip it to this. Incredible work!
The team behind Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania received praise from Gregg Mayles, a veteran of the original game’s developer Rare (where he worked from 1989 to 2025), and Grant Kirkhope, the composer for the classic Banjo and Kazooie games.
