Original news (May 5th)
Enthusiasts and newcomers alike who appreciate the renowned third-person shooter franchise set in a sci-fi universe will soon get to confront the Locust race, whether it’s another encounter or their initial one. Microsoft has revealed that they are releasing Gears of War: Reloaded, a revamped version of the very first installment in the Gears of War series.
The game’s official launch is scheduled for August 26th this year, appearing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam and Microsoft Store). Priced at $39.99, it will also be accessible through the PC Game Pass / Game Pass Ultimate service on release day.
To express appreciation towards long-time fans of Gears of War, Microsoft has chosen to gift the remastered version free of charge to all who owned the 2016 edition, titled Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. This edition is a comprehensive version of the original 2006 release. If you’ve digitally bought this game using your Xbox account before May 5th this year, you’ll be given a code for Gears of War: Reloaded prior to its launch.
I’m thrilled to share that Microsoft is unveiling an updated edition of their iconic shooter game to mark the anniversary of this beloved series! Plus, they’re giving fans like me a chance to revisit the origins by making the very first game accessible to more people.
As the 20th anniversary of the Gears of War franchise arrives in 2026, we’re taking a moment to ponder its significance. It’s about the tales we’ve woven, the bonds we’ve formed, and the moments etched into our memories that we’ve experienced together. With the release of Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re inviting even more players to join this shared journey.
The newly announced upgrade of the game, titled “GoW: Reloaded,” will offer Sony console players an opportunity to delve into the series for the first time. Previously, the initial installment was exclusive to Xbox and PC platforms. Compared to the earlier “Ultimate” edition, this refreshed version will boast additional features and enhancements. Notably, it will feature improved textures, shadows, and reflections, as well as other upgrades that are yet to be revealed.
- support for 4K resolution;
- support for 120 fps in multiplayer mode and 60 fps in campaign;
- support for HDR and VRR technology;
- enhanced anti-aliasing;
- no loading screens in the campaign.
As a thrilled player, I’m excited to share that I can tackle the “Gears of War: Reloaded” campaign either online or split-screen for two players – perfect for teaming up with a friend! In addition, when it comes to multiplayer action, we can rally seven more gamers to join us. This game is cross-platform compatible, ensuring seamless play and progress across all devices, thanks to its cross-play and cross-progression features.
In the reloaded edition of the original “Gears of War”, all digital content previously released will be accessible at no cost. This means players will gain additional campaign content, maps, and cosmetic items (earned by advancing in the game).
Although comparison videos of the remastered textures against the originals haven’t been released just yet, you can still get a glimpse by checking out some images from the revamped version of “Gears of War: Reloaded” down below.
