Advance Wars fans, pay attention to upcoming game Warside

As a long-time fan of the Advance Wars series, the announcement of Warside has me more excited than a squirrel in a nut factory! Having grown up playing the original games on my beloved Game Boy Advance, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia seeing this new game that seems to carry on the legacy so beautifully.

As a gamer, I can’t help but draw parallels between the heart-pounding, turn-based combat of Warside and the legendary Advance Wars series by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems. While it might seem like a familiar tune, that’s perfectly alright because it seems the team at First Break Labs is proudly carrying on the legacy with their inspiration clearly visible. And from what I’ve seen, fans are taking notice too!

Similar to how a commentator on the YouTube trailer described it as a “long-lost relative” of Advance Wars, Warside bears a striking resemblance to Advance Wars and seems eager to uphold its legacy. The Wars series has graced every Nintendo console until its unexpected halt on the Nintendo DS with Days of Ruin, but the recent remaster of 1+2 has revitalized the franchise once more.

Indeed, there hasn’t been a completely fresh installment of the Wars series since Days of Ruin, up until 2024. That’s where Warside steps into the fray.

Warside will be available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, drawing heavily from the mechanics, aesthetic, themes, and even color schemes of its predecessor, War. This isn’t surprising, as the development team consists of veterans from SEGA, Nintendo, ATLUS, and SmileGate. It appears that this game is poised to satisfy a long-standing desire among fans.

Shifting our focus towards the unique aspects of Warside, the forthcoming game promises an engrossing single-player storyline spanning over thirty missions. In addition to this, players will have a choice of twelve distinct commanders, each boasting unique abilities and vulnerabilities, leveraging a variety of units from the game’s collection of 25 options.

In addition to the regular gameplay, this game includes team missions that can be played locally or online (cooperative multiplayer). Moreover, it offers both local and online player versus player (PvP) modes. At present, it’s uncertain if the game will support cross-platform play, so if you intend to play together online with your friends, ensure you pre-order from the same platform.

The game doesn’t have a specific release date announced as of yet, but it will be showcased during the Convergence Games Showcase on Thursday, September 26. If you’re an Advance Wars enthusiast and curious about Warside, don’t forget to tune in. Additionally, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam right now.
