Adrian Wojnarowski, NBA Insider, Says He’ll Leave ESPN for College Role

As a die-hard basketball fan, I can’t help but admire Adrian Wojnarowski‘s extraordinary journey through the world of sports journalism. From his humble beginnings at local newspapers to his groundbreaking work at Yahoo Sports and ESPN, Woj has consistently demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to his craft.

ESPN may need to come up with a new method for getting inside the NBA.

After spending seven years meticulously reporting on team transactions, trades, and other aspects of professional basketball for ESPN, the Disney-owned sports media giant, Adrian Wojnarowski has chosen to pursue a new path, expressing a need to enhance his personal lifestyle. Shortly after he publicized his decision to leave ESPN, news broke that he would be shifting careers, taking on the role of general manager for the men’s basketball team at St. Bonaventure University in New York – his alma mater.

Wojnarowski stated that he realizes the level of dedication needed for his position, but he’s no longer compelled to put in that effort. He explained that time is a finite resource and he wishes to use it on things that hold greater personal significance for him.

The separation seems friendly. As stated by ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, Wojnarowski is “exceptionally gifted and courageous.” He has excelled in the industry at ESPN, and his commitment to his work is renowned. Although we’ll miss his daily contributions, we fully grasp his desire for a lifestyle change and wish to reduce the pace a bit.

Adrian Wojnarowski started his career at The Record of New Jersey in 2007, following short-term positions at the Fresno Bee and the Republican-American of Waterbury, Connecticut. Prior to joining ESPN in 2017, he spent close to a decade at Yahoo Sports. In 2017, 2018, and 2019, he was recognized as the National Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. This award has also been bestowed upon sports writing greats like Red Smith, Jim Murray, Frank Deford, Rick Reilly, Bob Ryan, and Tom Verducci, making Wojnarowski part of an exclusive group. He is also the author of “The Miracle of St. Anthony: A Season with Coach Bob Hurley and Basketball’s Most Improbable Dynasty.
