As a cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of Malaysian cinema over the past few decades, I am thrilled to see Adrian Teh embarking on his latest project, “Magik Rompak”. Having followed his career closely, I can confidently say that this high-stakes heist thriller promises to be a visual and narrative masterpiece.

Renowned Malaysian filmmaker, Adrian Teh, has started shooting the suspenseful movie titled “Enigma of Shattered Keys,” which is an intense, high-risk heist drama.

The storyline centers around a prominent magician who recruits a group initially unwilling for a bold and risky operation to snatch a valuable gem. As their histories become entangled and the risks escalate, the team needs to master the craft of deception, address their personal weaknesses, and conduct a grand disappearing trick to safeguard their futures.

The production known as “Magik Rompak” is a collaborative effort between ACT 2 Pictures (Malaysia) and Clover Films (Singapore). May Woo from ACT 2, along with Paulyn Chua and Lim Teck from Clover Films, will take on the role of executive producers.

International sales will be managed by Clover, while GSC takes care of theatrical distribution in Malaysia. Both Clover and GV will oversee theatrical distribution in Singapore.

With a budget of around RM13 million (USD 3 million), production for the movie started on November 9th. The entire film is set to be shot in Malaysia over a span of 50 days, with various scenes being filmed at Iskandar Malaysia Studios in Johor. A notable portion of the movie’s advanced digital effects will be created by Singapore-based WOWFX Studios.

At the forefront, we have Sharnaaz Ahmad (from “Polis Evo 3”), Zul Ariffin (“Sheriff”), Miller Khan (“The Bridge”), and Fabian Loo from the series “Fly By Night”. Among the leading ladies are Amelia Henderson (“Pulau”), Yasmin Hani (“Gold”), and Elvina Mohamad (“Zombitopia”), who bring depth and suspense to the narrative. The production gains weight with the presence of renowned Singaporean actor Tay Ping Hui, known for “Legend Of The Condor Heroes”.

In 2023, Ahmad’s film “Polis Evo 3” was the highest-grossing local movie, earning a total of RM54 million ($12.3 million) at the box office. On the other hand, Ariffin’s movie “Sheriff” took in an impressive RM62 million ($14.1 million) at the box office this year.

Teh, CEO and director of ACT 2 Pictures, described their upcoming film as a unique cinematic adventure blending magical and heist elements. He shared that the storyline includes unexpected turns and mesmerizing magic scenes. Moreover, Teh plans to utilize cutting-edge filming technology to deliver visually stunning effects that will leave viewers amazed.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming production, ‘Magik Rompak’, marks my 13th collaboration with the exceptional director Adrian. Over the years, he has risen to become one of Malaysia’s foremost directors, consistently delivering high-quality films with a knack for striking a chord with audiences.
