Adolescence” sparked a worldwide discussion when it debuted on March 13, presenting an unyielding depiction of a 13-year-old boy suspected of murdering a classmate. Aramide Tinubu found the show to be both dark and superbly crafted, exploring the intricacies of human nature and masculinity. The show’s portrayal of the influence of the manosphere on young people via social media is chilling and alarming in its rapid spread,” wrote Aramide Tinubu for EbMaster. “The series, ‘Adolescence’, powerfully depicts our failures as a society, and our ongoing inability to adequately support future generations.
The team features Stephen Graham, debutant Owen Cooper, Ashley Walters, Christine Tremarco, and Amelie Pease.
Despite “Adolescence” being a significant milestone for streaming platforms, it hasn’t managed to outpace some of this year’s most popular television broadcast programs in terms of viewership. Shows like “The Traitors” on BBC, “Call The Midwife,” and the “Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell” documentary on BBC have attracted larger audiences over a seven-day period. Similarly, ITV’s drama series “Mr Bates vs the Post Office,” which premiered last year, drew in 10 million viewers during its first week alone.
Starting from November 2021, Barb started factoring in live streaming data as part of their rating determinations, signifying the increasing role of digital channels within the television infrastructure. In October 2022, Netflix officially joined Barb’s ranks.
