Addams Family Values Gets First 4K Blu-Ray Release, Just In Time For Thanksgiving

As a long-time fan of all things macabre and whimsical, I must say that the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of “Addams Family Values” is like finding an ancient family heirloom that’s been lost for far too long. This film has been a staple in my annual Thanksgiving viewing rotation since its debut in ’93, and I can hardly contain my excitement for this high-definition revisit to the Addams’ darkly hilarious world.

Among the numerous holiday movies available, there aren’t too many that focus specifically on the American tradition of Thanksgiving. One classic that stands out during this festive season is the witty and macabre film “Addams Family Values,” a sequel to the 1960s sitcom-inspired movie, and an early precursor to Netflix’s series, Wednesday. Interestingly, this year marks the first time that Addams Family Values will be released on 4K Blu-ray, 31 years after its initial release in 1993. You could make it a Thanksgiving tradition to watch it and then transition seamlessly into the Christmas season with another timeless classic, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” which is also set for its first 4K Blu-ray release on the same day.

The Addams Family has had an extensive history spanning decades. Originating from a comic strip published in The New Yorker in 1938, the quirky family gained popularity and was later transformed into a sitcom that aired for two seasons starting from 1964. Since then, they have appeared in various forms including animated series in 1973 and 1992, live-action movies and TV shows in the 1990s, animated films in 2019 and 2021, and most recently, the Netflix series “Wednesday” in 2022, which seems to be the most well-received adaptation so far.

In this newly released 4K version, The Addams Family Values now matches its slightly lighter-toned and less cynical predecessor, The Addams Family (previously available on 4K for a few years), which can be found in both standard and steelbook editions. Interestingly, Wednesday is among the rare Netflix series to be released on Blu-ray, and it’s currently offered at a 50% discount. If you can’t wait until October for Addams Family Values 4K, there are other options available in the interim.

  • The Addams Family 4K – $23 ($26)
  • The Addams Family 4K Steelbook – $25 ($31)
  • Wednesday Blu-ray – $15 ($30)
  • The Addams Family 4K animated double feature – $35 ($45)
  • The Addams Family original 1964 series DVD – $21 ($70)

Mentioning Netflix series that will be available on Blu-ray this October, two highly acclaimed video game-inspired animated shows are set to debut. The cherished series, Arcane, taking place in the League of Legends universe, is scheduled for a 4K Blu-ray release with a special steelbook case limited edition on the 8th of October. Meanwhile, Castlevania: Nocturne will hit 1080p Blu-ray shelves on the same day, and preorders are currently discounted at Amazon.
