As the 2025 movie calendar draws nearer, eagerly anticipating the return of “Happy Gilmore 2″ with Adam Sandler, I can’t help but recall that not everyone from the original cast will be part of this new round of chaos on the golf course. The sad passing of Carl Weathers in 2024 has already served as a reminder, and now the news of Morris the alligator has brought it back to my thoughts once more.
Despite a heartfelt and amusing internet tribute from Sandler himself, the event prompted the SNL alum/Happy Gilmore star to post a classic photo on Instagram showing him and Morris in a golf match. However, as you’ll discover in the accompanying caption, Adam Sandler didn’t overlook adding a tender touch to his portrayal of Morris by partially embellishing his animal co-star’s softer side.

In one of Adam Sandler’s top films, playing an adversary maintains an actor’s prestige. This is something even Christopher McDonald, a returning cast member for the hypothetical “Happy Gilmore 2,” can attest to! As for Morris’ character, who swindled professional golfer and mentor Chubbs (Carl Weathers), it’s likely that fans dream of seeing McDonald and his “Predator” co-star sharing a space again – perhaps reminiscing about ethics in the afterlife; two seasoned performers discussing moral principles.
Morris the alligator, living up to a grand old age between 80 and 90 years, must have had countless tales to share, given his long and eventful life. As per his obituary in The New York Times, Morris, a celebrated water-dwelling figure, was initially found as an unlawfully kept pet during the 1970s. This chance encounter paved the way for Morris to appear in several prominent films, including “Alligator,” “Interview with the Vampire,” and even Arnold Schwarzenegger’s high-octane display of screen violence, “Eraser.
In his retirement, Morris spent his remaining years at the Colorado Gator Farm, under the supervision of its manager, Jay Young. Consequently, when it was time to inform everyone about this change, Young took to social media, as he often did with his other cherished creatures, to announce the news.

With great affection, Adam Sandler paid tribute to this beloved figure, balancing solemnity with humor in his storytelling. To others, this might have appeared trivial, but for Jay Young, those shared memories – like the one about sharing a Three Musketeers bar – may have provided comfort during this difficult time.
At TopMob, our sincerest sympathies go out to Morris the alligator’s fans and caretakers. Although the release of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ on Netflix on July 25th is just around the corner, we can’t help but anticipate where Happy’s escapades will lead us next. Fingers crossed that the final edit includes a gator-themed joke, as it would serve to underscore the affection for a movie antagonist portrayed by an unexpectedly gentle creature.
