Activision Responds To Increase In Call Of Duty Cheating, Explains Why It Happened

As a long-time Call of Duty fan, I have experienced my fair share of frustrations with cheaters ruining the multiplayer experience. After witnessing the influx of cheaters in Modern Warfare III following its addition to Game Pass on July 24, it’s disheartening to see that even after paying for a premium service like Xbox Game Pass, players still have to contend with these unsavory individuals.

Following the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Game Pass on July 24, coinciding with the Season 5 update, gamers reported a significant increase in cheating incidents, adversely impacting the gaming experience for honest players.

Over the weekend, the Call of Duty Updates team acknowledged and responded to reports concerning the Ricochet anti-cheat software experiencing some troubles with its detection system. This problem has now been resolved.

According to Charlie Intel’s report, it seems that a significant number of cheaters originated from the Microsoft Store version of Modern Warfare III. As an avid fan, I’ve noticed Activision is relentless in their pursuit against cheat providers. Not long ago, the popular cheat-maker Raging Nation had to shut down due to legal challenges from Activision. In their own words, “Although we dispute the claims made in these legal actions, we are unable to fight a giant like Activision.” With a heavy heart, they’ve decided to close operations effective immediately.

In May, Activision was awarded $14.5 million in a settlement with a big Call of Duty cheat-maker.

Addressing cheating is an ongoing process for Activision, as they find a solution to one issue, new vulnerabilities are uncovered.
