Ace Combat 30th Anniversary Movie Highlights Series’ Evolution, Teases New Projects

Hard to believe, but the Bandai Namco fighter-jet series Ace Combat is already thirty years old! To celebrate the anniversary of its first game’s debut in Japan on June 30, 1995, the company released a fascinating video showcasing the progression of the series throughout the years.

The brief film showcases snippets from different Ace Combat games, illustrating how the vibrant artwork of the original Air Combat (the first game in the series) evolved into the highly realistic, near-future sci-fi style found in later installments like Ace Combat 7.

Apart from the sizzle reel for the series, the video also offers a sneak peek into some upcoming projects to mark the anniversary’s grand celebration. For example, Bandai Namco has revamped the Ace Combat website and announced a special symphony concert scheduled on January 31, 2026, at Japan’s Saitama Kaikan concert hall. Moreover, Bandai Namco hinted that they will unveil more projects starting from July.

It’s quite fascinating to observe how much Ace Combat has progressed over the years, considering that I am about the same age as this series and spent my youth during the 2000s. The fifth and sixth installments of Ace Combat hold a special place in my heart, with the former being a game I played tirelessly at kiosks in local Target stores, and the latter being one of the inaugural games I purchased for my Xbox 360.
