Ace Greene and Chelley Bissainthe, who have stirred much debate on Love Island USA, are leaving the show together. Their presence, along with this season as a whole, has been quite controversial. With over a million TikTok followers, Greene has been at the heart of discussions about influencers on reality shows and the commercialization of dating TV. Some viewers even speculated that their pre-season relationship would give them an unfair advantage. However, issues with a specific challenge and fan skepticism led to low rankings in viewer polls. Despite this, the couple managed to regain favor with fans through a cute firepit date and a romantic hideaway night. But even as they awaited the show’s outcome, they were unaware of the public’s reasoning and the many memes it inspired because they hadn’t yet received their phones back.
Had a chance encounter with her at a club in New York on my birthday, we connected through social media. Strangely enough, I received a call from Love Island. It seems they contacted her too. We both ended up on the show, and I was like, “Hey, I recognize you.
Chelley Bissainthe expresses surprise and disbelief, stating, “It’s crazy how people are saying we had a relationship or even lived together before this! That’s insane!” She clarifies that they met through social media, and their interactions can be seen in each other’s comments. Furthermore, she points out that they also knew other Islanders, as Amaya was someone she knew outside of the show, and Andreina knew Pepe. The process of being on the show wasn’t something they chose; instead, they were brought in.
Which New York City club was it?
CB: It was in the Bronx, it was a brunch place … Republica!
CB: The assessment made by America reflects their perspective, and if it mirrors their feelings, then they’re correct. However, everyone in the villa is wonderful. It wasn’t pleasant to be at the bottom and see how America felt about us. But we also gave more weight to how our peers ranked us – and we were generally high on those rankings. Our peers know us for 24 hours, not just one hour.
Ace, do you think Huda crossed the line during the heart-rate challenge?
AG: So … [Laughs.]
Despite all that happened during the heart rate challenge, I am still cheering everyone on who made it to the final round.
Have your thoughts about the heart-rate challenge changed in any way, Chelley?
CB: Not really. There were some boundaries pushed, but we managed to discuss it, find a resolution, and gain a better understanding of each other’s perspectives.
Ace, I need you to explain your reasons for breaking up with Jeremiah.
AG: Let me clarify that I genuinely care for Jeremiah. While we had our differences when it came to expressing love, I must say that as a person, I admire and appreciate Jeremiah. I would love nothing more than to maintain a friendly relationship with him outside the villa and even play basketball with him once I’m back. However, breaking up wasn’t easy because it’s never comfortable ending things with someone.
I shared with Jeremiah, “Look man, I’ve got my own thoughts and I prefer to keep ’em private.” But he insisted, “Nah, I want you to share your feelings with me.” So we decided to respectfully disagree on the matter. Our choice to send Jeremiah packing was influenced by how we perceived the Huda case in light of the Andreina situation. It was a collective call to either let one person go or another. We had to make a difficult choice in the end.
Chelley, let me ask you about your thoughts on Hannah. Among the three girls, it seemed like she had the closest bond with us. Could you explain why you felt that way?”
CB: “It was quite challenging. Nobody can truly comprehend the feelings we experienced while making such decisions. At first, everyone suggested choosing the one with the strongest connection. However, I thought that wasn’t fair because we witnessed a powerful example of how quickly such connections could fall apart. So it became a matter of, ‘Who is actually stepping up and taking on the exploration? Who is putting themselves out there?’ Of course, Hannah was doing that too, but we had to consider each person individually and their unique experiences. Ultimately, who deserved a second chance?
In my opinion, Hannah should have had more of an opportunity, however, ultimately, someone has to be chosen. If only I could keep them all, I certainly would. Unfortunately, that’s not possible. As I observe Amaya and Iris now, they both seem to still be connected. Amaya found a fantastic individual after going through numerous people; she’s had the complete experience. Similarly, Iris entered with multiple partners. Her connection with Pepe took us all by surprise as they have a truly wonderful bond. It’s difficult not to feel that things worked out well for them in the end.
As a cinephile, it’s intriguing to ponder why so many couples didn’t seem guarded before the Casa Amor challenge. For me and my partner, it was a chance to explore if we could find our ideal matches there. We wanted to test the strength of our bond after Casa Amor, and boy, did we get put through the wringer! But in the end, we emerged stronger than ever.
Casa Amor is essentially the ultimate trial. So, if we manage to get through it, we’re in for good, no turning back. But imagine suggesting a commitment before Casa Amor and denying someone the chance to explore, which is why we’re here. Afterward, you witness numerous relationships evolving. Some became stronger, I believe everyone was waiting for the right moment.
Straight up: Were you leaning more towards Olandria or Cierra for Nic?
CB: Honestly, that’s quite a challenge. They’re both fantastic ladies, and we’re close friends. Nic seemed content with either one. Ultimately, it boils down to what feels right, what feels good. I have faith he’ll make an excellent choice.
As a film critic, I’ve seen my fair share of on-screen friendships that blossomed beyond their initial setting. In the case of Olandria and Cierra from the villa, it’s a friendship I’d love to see grow outside those walls. However, I can’t say for certain if it will, as only time will tell if they can maintain a bond outside the confines of the villa.
Ace: The show only shows an hour of the 24 hours we spend together, so it’s easy to miss things. At first, Amaya and I didn’t get along as well as we do now, but before I left, she made me a smoothie in the kitchen while we chatted. Now, she’s found someone special and I hope she wins the competition.
My next question is about who you think should win, but I must admit, I’m rooting for Amaya, as we’ve become quite close friends. However, Nic and I have a deep bond too, and I also admire Olandria. I can’t make up my mind between the three.
CB: It’s Nic and Olandria or Amaya and Bryan. Either of those two truly deserve to get crowned.
There’s been a lot of discussion about reality shows featuring influencers who already have large online followings. Given that I had an established presence on social media before joining the show, what do you think about this practice?
AG: I don’t see myself as an influencer. While I may have influence over people, I am not someone whose entire job is managing social media or earning a living from it. I decided to take a break during the summer, seek a romantic partner, and spend time away from the social media world. I didn’t want to enter the show with the mindset of constantly entertaining to gain more followers. Instead, I wanted to find love, and it seems like I did.
Indeed, they were all present. However, it’s important to note that many weren’t known as influencers. Instead, they held various professions. For instance, Olandria is involved in the elevator industry. In essence, while we might use social media, our lives are significantly shaped by careers distinct from those platforms. We didn’t identify ourselves based on being influencers.
How do you envision adapting to life after the villa? CB: Given that I’m currently in Florida, while he is in LA, we will initially have to manage long-distance for some time. However, I am planning to move to LA eventually, which is a definite plan. The specific timeline remains uncertain, but we are determined people who know what we want, so I don’t foresee it being too much of a challenge to navigate this period of long distance.
I asked if he was thinking about including a portrait of Chelley on his tattoos, to which he replied that he intends to have me (or himself) depicted there instead.
AG: If things get to that point, I’ll definitely get her face tatted on my ribs.
Have you discovered anything about yourselves while going through this journey? For me, it was a significant process of self-expression, something I don’t usually do openly. It took time and patience to reveal my thoughts and feelings. However, she managed to bring out my vulnerability, which I truly valued during this experience. So, thank you for that supportive role.
Absolutely. I discovered how deeply emotional I truly am, shedding the most tears in the villa. Additionally, I understood the importance of communication. He kept his defenses up towards me, but I was just as closed off. Our time together taught me it’s alright to lower my guard and trust someone. So, thank you as well, because you played a role in helping me with that.
I was taken aback by this revelation. I usually don’t concern myself with people’s heights, but Austin recently commented on a TikTok post suggesting I’m not 5’10”. To set the record straight, let me make it clear that’s not accurate.
What was your favorite moment from the whole experience?CB: Oh, that’s gonna be the babies.
As a movie connoisseur, I must admit that the infant characters stole the show for me. Caring for those adorable bundles of joy was an absolute delight, as my days were filled with to-and-fro interactions with Nic and Olandria’s little ones.
Even though you guys didn’t pass the test?CB: Allegedly.
It’s said that some parents reportedly placed their infants near the stove, causing hot bacon fat to splash onto their faces.
In this situation, some parents were unable to locate their infants. When inquired about the whereabouts of their child, they seemed confused and began pointing fingers at one another. I can’t help but wonder how we let this happen. I am truly curious to understand.
