Acclaimed Horror Sequel Release Date Delayed, Director Answers Why

As a big fan of the first Thanksgiving film, I was excited about the sequel, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer. Director Eli Roth recently explained that some unexpected issues have caused a delay in production. It’s a shame, especially since the first movie did so well with both audiences and critics, but these things happen. Hopefully, they can work everything out and deliver a sequel that lives up to the original!

Eli Roth explains why Thanksgiving 2 is delayed

Eli Roth has announced that the sequel to Thanksgiving is facing delays. The main issue is finding a time when all the original actors are available to film, as many have started working on other significant projects in movies, TV shows, and music since the first film came out.

I was reading ScreenRant, and director Roth was talking about how incredibly lucky they were with the cast of their movie. Apparently, everyone’s really taking off! Jalen Thomas Brooks is in ‘The Pitt,’ Nell Verlaque landed a role in MGM+’s ‘American Classic,’ and Milo Manheim is even going to be Flynn Rider in Disney’s live-action ‘Tangled’ remake. Addison Rae’s a bit of a different story – she’s on a huge world tour that’s scheduled to run all the way through 2026! Roth admitted all this success is actually causing some headaches when it comes to getting everyone back together for things like sequels or promotional work.

Because of this, director Roth explained that the second Thanksgiving movie won’t be filmed like the original. Instead of having the entire cast on set for the whole shoot, he’s planning to film scenes whenever each actor is available.

So, the guy told me we could film here for three days, which is awesome. He said there’d be some maneuvering to get everything done, a bit of a delicate dance, if you will. But even with the slight hold-up, he stressed that people are still really into this series. He pointed out that ‘Thanksgiving’ has actually come back to theaters a bunch of times since it first came out, which is a great sign!

Roth shared that he’s prioritizing unexpected moments in the sequel. He explained that he’s approaching it from the perspective of a fan, asking himself, ‘What would genuinely surprise me if I were watching this movie?’
