AC Shadows Devs Overwhelmed by Fan Love Amid Criticism

Developers of Assassin’s Creed Shadows express gratitude towards their community, commending them for their overwhelmingly positive support and hinting at more exciting content to come.

The debut of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has proven challenging for Ubisoft. The game garnered attention for its romantic subplots, the presence of Yasuke, and portrayals of shrine desecration – an issue that prompted response from the Japanese government.

As an avid fan, I must admit that the backlash has been intense, even causing a renowned Japanese developer to defend the title from what he considers “unusual” critics. Yet, amidst the online hostility, Assassin’s Creed Shadows stands tall as the largest Steam release in the franchise’s history, peaking at an astounding 64,825 concurrent players – a record-breaking number that speaks volumes about its appeal.

Apart from this, it’s worth noting that Shadows boasts over two million players across all platforms, surpassing the initial player numbers of both AC Origins and Odyssey during their launches. This massive show of affection for the game has touched Ubisoft deeply, inspiring them to express gratitude towards the Assassin’s Creed community.

AC Shadows devs thank community

On the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reddit, Ubisoft expressed gratitude for the community’s kindness: “Over the weekend, several members from our Development Team took time to read your posts across the Assassin’s Creed subreddit. We simply wanted to say thank you. The overwhelmingly positive and loving responses we’ve received have been truly touching.

After finding a discussion where gamers commended the game’s environment, layout, and effort invested in creating Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the developers chose to engage with the community.

As I witness your enthusiasm, your insightful responses, and the pure joy you radiate, it feels like an incredible journey completed, my dear fans. After pouring countless hours into our creations over the years, there’s no greater satisfaction than seeing our community resonate with what we’ve built together.

The development team has acknowledged their focus on community input, planning to utilize the suggestions they get to continually enhance the game. Additionally, Ubisoft hinted that “Shadows is only getting started,” expressing excitement about watching the game grow and develop further.

It seems this hints at the Claws of Awaji DLC, an upcoming expansion that introduces a fresh area, unique weapon category, faction, and new weapons and abilities. For more details on the approaching Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC, check out our roadmap.
