People who enjoy Liam Neeson‘s action films can look forward to streaming his latest movie by the end of this month. In this 2024 film, Neeson takes on the role of a veteran assassin suffering from brain injuries.
On this coming Friday, June 13th, I’m thrilled to share that you’ll get a chance to stream the gripping action flick, “Absolution,” exclusively on Hulu. This film is a collaboration between the talented Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland and Tony Gayton, who has previously worked on movies like “The Salton Sea” and “Hell on Wheels.” Together, they’ve brought a fresh perspective to the action movie genre with “Absolution.
Liam Neeson’s Absolution Comes to Hulu on June 13
Liam Neeson portrays an elderly hitman for the mob who’s dealing with a terminal disease called CTE, trying to evade his criminal past. His character, commonly referred to as The Thug, grapples with the repercussions of brain trauma while striving to shield his estranged daughter and grandson from being found by his former adversaries.
In a different approach compared to his usual action hero characters, Liam proposed that the 2024 film would be less about high-octane stunts and more about delving deeply into the character’s personality, making it more of a character analysis than a typical action-packed blockbuster.
He’s done numerous action films involving fights, gunplay, and the like, but he finds the concept of portraying a worn-out character who has a dark past filled with questionable deeds for monetary gain appealing. However, when it comes to family, he acknowledges that he hasn’t been a good parent, in fact, he’s been downright poor. Yet, upon meeting his grandchild, there seems to be an opportunity for this character to seek some form of redemption – not in a religious sense, but more as a yearning for his spirit to find solace and absolution.

Additionally, Neeson shared his gratitude for the opportunity to lead high-octane action films even at the age of 72.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate from the start, and I continue to feel that way. At 72 years old, scripts are still being offered to me. Some involve me fighting other characters, while others don’t. However, I feel deeply privileged and honored whenever I receive a really good script. There are definitely some offers I quickly decline, but I’m grateful enough to still be considered for them.
The Northern Irish actor hinted in late 2024 that from action movies by the end of 2025.
He conceded, “At 72 years old, it’s time for this to come to an end.” Audiences aren’t easy to deceive… Perhaps by the end of next year. I believe that will be all.
During this period, Liam Neeson will soon poke fun at his action hero persona through a comedy. This is the latest installment of the renowned comedy series, where the late Leslie Nielsen portrayed super-cop Frank Drebin. In this new version, Neeson takes on the role of Drebin’s son, sharing screen time with Paul Walter Hauser and Pamela Anderson. The revival of the Naked Gun series will have Akiva Schaffer from The Lonely Island, directing a script he co-wrote with Dan Gregor (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Doug Mand (Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers)).
“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage.”
In May 2024, Neeson expressed his awareness of the high expectations associated with portraying Leslie Nielsen in a “Naked Gun” production.
Liam Neeson Had A Career Renaissance Thanks to the Taken Films
- Neeson was primarily known at the start of his career for art-house and prestige projects, including earning a Best Actor Oscar nomination for 1994’s .
- He starred in a number of historical dramas prior to his success with Taken, including dramatizing Ireland’s battle for independence in 1996’s Michael Collins and playing a renowned sex researcher in 2005’s Kinsey.
- He is also an accomplished stage actor, having received a pair of Tony Awards throughout his career for his Broadway stints in Anna Christie (1993) and The Crucible (2002)
In my excitement at being given the chance to play Frank Drebin, I must admit a hint of apprehension sets in. You see, while I’ve dabbled in some skits for brief TV appearances, this role would stretch over 95-100 minutes of film – quite a leap! Fingers crossed that my fellow cast members will bring the humor and charm to keep me grounded with my straightforward portrayal. And let’s not forget the importance of visual gags to add some zest!
Absolution has its streaming premiere on Hulu on Friday, June 13.
