The actor found himself in a tough spot while portraying Jesse Pinkman in the popular series “Breaking Bad”. Out of all scenes, there was one particular one that filled him with apprehension to an exceptional degree.
During a recent interview on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, Paul reminisced about the AMC drama Breaking Bad. When asked if there were any particularly challenging scenes as an actor, Paul quickly recalled Jesse’s devastating loss in the show. In the second season of Breaking Bad, Jesse’s girlfriend, Jane (played by Krysten Ritter), tragically overdosed and died while under the influence of drugs. A grief-stricken Jesse discovered her body the next morning, marking one of the most somber moments for the character throughout the series. Paul revealed that he felt quite anxious in the lead-up to filming this scene.
Paul shared, “That scene reminded me of an episode from ‘Breaking Bad.’ In it, Jesse finds his girlfriend, Jane, dead. It was a challenging moment for me to portray because I had such strong feelings for the character – a mix of love and complications that felt like a dangerous romance. He was so deeply in love, yet unaware of how much she was hurting him. Together, they were causing each other harm. I was apprehensive about playing this scene, and I wasn’t sure how to approach it.
He commented, “I didn’t actually practice it extensively. Instead, I focused on getting into the character as if I were him. Consequently, the performance you witnessed was quite intense, or in other words, it was challenging.
From then on, things became progressively harder for Jesse, a fact that viewers of the show will recall. By the series finale, his character was far from finding peace, instead grappling with an ambiguous future following the hardships he faced during the final season. Fortunately, Paul managed to provide some resolution by revisiting the role in the Netflix sequel film titled “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie“. In addition, he portrayed Jesse in flashback sequences during the last season of “Better Call Saul“. At present, it seems there are no further plans for any new TV shows or films within the “Breaking Bad” universe, suggesting that Paul’s tenure as Jesse may have come to an end.
What’s Next for Aaron Paul?
Paul was lately seen with Eiza Gonzalez in a movie. Additionally, he lends his voice in the animated series “Invincible”. Fans can anticipate more of his work, as he’s involved in an upcoming action thriller, co-starring alongside Russell Crowe and Nina Dobrev.
Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie are streaming on Netflix.
