A24’s ‘Warfare’ Launches Imax Run With Early Screenings

Starting from April 9, the movie “Warfare” by A24, penned by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and directed by Alex Garland (known for “Civil War”), will have its Imax premiere. The wide release is scheduled for April 11. You can purchase tickets for this action-packed film right now on the Imax website.

In this 94-minute film, I find myself immersed in a harrowing real-time operation, following a team of U.S. Navy SEALs on a disastrous reconnaissance mission in Ramadi, a violent insurgent area approximately 70 miles west of Baghdad. This gripping, emotional movie is inspired by Mendoza’s personal war experiences and features D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai in the lead role. The cast also includes Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Charles Melton, Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, along with Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henry Zaga, Alex Brockdorff, Nathan Altai, Aaron Deakins, and Donya Hussen.

24th Street hosted a movie screening for veterans in Los Angeles on March 12. Justin Garza, a filmmaker from the Warrior Heritage Foundation, presented the film and emphasized that it was not overly dramatized, saying, “This isn’t a Hollywood-style production.” Garland praised the movie as an expression of sincerity, calling it “a genuine piece,” highlighting its raw, unedited, and truthful nature.

As a dedicated cinephile, I can tell you that during our preparation for the movie, Melton and the rest of us actors underwent an intense three-week military boot camp. At its conclusion, we each took the symbolic step of shaving our heads and getting identical tattoos – a bonding experience that truly brought us together.

Apart from “Warfare,” A24 is also planning to revive another movie for Imax – “Spring Breakers.” This movie will be back in theaters for a single night on March 19, as part of A24’s regular monthly screening events.
