Hollywood frequently turns video games into movies, and there are several more planned for the future. One upcoming project is a film from A24 based on a popular video game.
The new movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 3, 2028. Alex Garland, known for 28 Days Later, will write and direct the film, which will star Kit Connor from Heartstopper and Ben Whishaw of Black Doves. Along with the release date, the movie, based on Elden Ring, also revealed the full cast list.
What to Know About the Elden Ring Movie?
The cast features Cailee Spaeny, known for her role in the upcoming film Civil War and previously collaborated with the director on that project. Joining her are Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Peter Rice produced Elden Ring, with additional production support from Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA, and contributions from George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
Andrew Garland is a dedicated gamer with a passion for Elden Ring. He personally contacted Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, the game’s creators, to propose a film or TV adaptation. While details are still under wraps, plans for this adaptation were first revealed in May 2025.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the upcoming adaptation of Elden Ring will be a live-action series, not animated. Many fans were worried it might be animated, believing animation would have better suited the source material. Following the release of the game, some viewers also expressed that a TV series, similar to The Last of Us or Fallout, would have been a more effective format than a movie.
Released in 2022, Elden Ring is a popular open-world role-playing game. Players take on the role of a Tarnished, an exile who returns to the fractured realm of The Lands Between. This land was once ruled by the mighty Elden Ring, but is now filled with conflict. To restore order, players must defeat powerful demigods and gather the shattered pieces of the Elden Ring, ultimately determining the world’s destiny.
2028 Will Be Action-Packed
While everyone is looking forward to Elden Ring in 2028, it won’t be the only major release that year. Though many studios haven’t announced their plans yet, some promising projects are already in the works. One of these is a film adaptation of the popular video game Elden Ring, scheduled for release on June 30, 2028. The movie will be directed by Pete Berg and written by Taylor Sheridan.
Fans can also look forward to The Mummy 4, directed by the filmmaking team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Plus, the popular Fast & Furious series will conclude with Fast Forever, currently planned for release on March 17, 2028.
Elden Ring premieres in theaters on Mar. 2, 2028.
