A24’s ‘Civil War’ Sets Streaming Release Date on Max

As a film critic with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of movies that push the boundaries and challenge audiences – but “Civil War” stands out as one of the most thought-provoking and visceral films I’ve ever witnessed. Alex Garland’s masterful storytelling is on full display here, with a cast that delivers performances that are nothing short of breathtaking.

The movie “Civil War,” directed by Alex Garland, which follows the journey of journalists through a divided America, will be available for streaming on a specific date.

On September 14th, the much-discussed movie from A24 will premiere on Max. Additionally, you can choose to stream or buy it on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+ as well.

Featuring Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman, this movie broke the A24 record by earning $25 million during its opening weekend.

In a conversation related to the movie with EbMaster, Dunst mentioned that the aim of the production was to provoke thought and stimulate discussion.

“According to Dunst, the entire film can be viewed in various ways. For her, there were certain unanswered questions she simply let be. This leaves room for viewers to project their personal emotions onto the story they’re observing.”

Garland agreed it was best for him not to connect too many dots.

“The director stated that he has his unique responses to these queries and would gladly share them if inquired. However, if Kirsten doesn’t pose the questions, he won’t provide answers on his own.”

EbMaster critic Peter Debruge gave a positive review to the film, praising its visceral nature:

For those who have watched Garland’s previous film, “Men,” it is clear that he has no qualms about taking things to their most unsettling limits. “Civil War” follows suit. Garland uses disturbing visuals, not merely portraying the atrocities of war, but often seeming to endorse actions that make the events of January 6th appear tame. The origins of the conflict in this movie remain vague, leaving us unable to find a resolution to what we’re witnessing. Before its release, “Civil War” has been criticized for capitalizing on political tensions during an election year. However, its true intention is to demonstrate the futility of taking sides. Despite his hard-hitting approach, Garland is not one to advocate for reconciliation. His powerful vision leaves us feeling unsettled, much like the question that ended the L.A. riots: Can we all find common ground?
