A24 Buys ‘Friendship,’ Starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, Following TIFF Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming comedy “Friendship” has caught my attention like a firework on the Fourth of July. Having watched Tim Robinson’s hilarious antics in “I Think You Should Leave,” and Paul Rudd‘s charismatic performances in a plethora of comedies, I can hardly contain my excitement for this film.

The film “Friendship,” a comedy featuring Tim Robinson from “I Think You Should Leave” and Paul Rudd, has been granted landing rights by A24. This movie made its first appearance on the global stage during the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program.

In his first directorial attempt, Andrew DeYoung crafted the movie “Friendship.” Drawing inspiration from the awkward humor of “I Think You Should Leave,” Robinson portrays a suburban father who becomes overly fixated on forging a connection with his neighbor, played by Rudd. Additionally, Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk are part of the film’s cast.

Robinson’s debut leading role in a film is “Friendship.” Rudd is famous for his comedic performances in movies such as “Anchorman,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Clueless,” and “I Love You, Man.” DeYoung has directed episodes for shows like “The Other Two,” “Pen15,” “High Fidelity,” and “Our Flag Means Death.

Critic Nick Schager from The Daily Beast declared “Friendship” as the “most hilarious movie of the year.” He further noted that what makes Robinson’s debut film stand out is its understanding that, beneath their eccentricities, these peculiar characters aren’t simply harmless jesters – they are deeply disturbed individuals.

In the production of “Friendship,” Nick Weidenfeld, Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, and John Holland served as producers. Paul Rudd, Tracy Rosenblum, Alexis Garcia, and DeYoung held the role of executive producers. WME Independent and UTA are jointly handling domestic sales for this title, with Fifth Season also getting involved in the process.

Additionally, at other film festivals, the distribution rights for “The Brutalist,” a historical epic directed by Brady Corbet featuring Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, have been acquired by A24 for U.S. release. Similarly, A24 has also obtained the rights for Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama titled “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

DeYoung is repped by Dan McManus and Rise Management.
