24 Studios has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the movie titled “Pillion,” a delightfully dirty romance with a touch of warmth, featuring Alexander Skarsgard (known for “The Northman” and “Succession”) and Harry Melling (“The Pale Blue Eye” and “The Queen’s Gambit”).
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about “Pillion,” a film produced by the illustrious Element Pictures, a studio renowned for their multiple Oscar wins. Having just wrapped up production this past summer, it represents the feature directorial debut of Harry Lighton, whose short film “Wren Boys” was a contender for the Best British Short at the 2018 BAFTAs, was recognized by BIFA, and graced the screens at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States.
As a cinema enthusiast, I find myself drawn into the captivating world of “Pillion,” where I follow Colin (Melling), a timid soul who seems content to let life drift by. However, everything changes when the dashing, charismatic leader of a motorbike gang, Ray (Skarsgård), invites him into their fold as his submissive. Abandoning his mundane suburban existence, Colin is introduced to a vibrant, unconventional group of kinky, LGBTQ+ bikers. With Ray leading the way, they break new ground, stripping away Colin’s inexperience and introducing him to a world of sensations he never knew existed.
The movie, titled ‘Pillion’, is produced by Element Pictures and funded by BBC Film, BFI (using National Lottery funds), in partnership with Fremantle, Picturehouse Entertainment, and September Film. The latter two will handle distribution within the UK and Benelux regions respectively. The screenplay for this production was developed with BBC Film and is inspired by Adam Mars-Jones’ novel ‘Box Hill’, which won the 2019 Nobel Prize from Fitzcarraldo Editions. Global sales and distribution are handled by Cornerstone.
Element’s Emma Norton, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe are teaming up with Lee Groombridge to produce the project. BBC Film’s Eva Yates, Louise Ortega for the BFI, Fremantle’s Christian Vesper, Claire Binns for Picturehouse, September Film’s Pim Hermeling, Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder, along with Alexander Skarsgård, are serving as executive producers.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the team behind this upcoming production boasts some truly talented individuals. Nick Morris, our cinematographer from “Wren Boys,” will be capturing our visuals. Francesca Massariol, who designed the sets for “The Strays,” is our production designer. Grace Snell, a BIFA Award winner for her work on “The Souvenir,” will take care of costumes. Diandra Ferreira, known for her hair and makeup work in “Bob Marley: One Love,” will ensure we look fantastic. Oliver Coates, a BIFA Award nominee for his composition in “Aftersun,” will compose our music. Lastly, Kahleen Crawford, who cast “Lost Daughter,” will be responsible for our casting decisions.
Melling is managed by Curtis Brown and Lucy Popkin at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher, while Skarsgård is handled by CAA and a team that includes Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
