It’s been verified that Gail Simone, a distinguished author celebrated for her contributions to the DC series, took part in the development of the Wonder Woman video game which Monolith Productions unfortunately decided to terminate.
Simone, who’s been writing for Wonder Woman longer than any other female author, was thrilled when asked to provide long-term consultation for the game. She couldn’t resist the opportunity, calling it a “perfect convergence” of her passions – Wonder Woman, video games, and one of her favorite studios: Monolith.
Simone added that the Monolith’s Wonder Woman game was “beautifully detailed and vast.” She emphasized that they aimed to create not only an exceptional game, but specifically an outstanding Wonder Woman game, a spectacle of epic proportions.

The author commended the team at Monolith for creating a truly remarkable game, despite it not being as successful in the end.
Every individual involved in its creation gave their best effort, from programmers to artists to designers. I’ve rarely been part of a team that was as dedicated to producing an outstanding final product. In fact, it felt like working with a dream team – just like Wonder Woman had in her comics and movies. They paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the game captured both the essence of Wonder Woman and the richness of DC lore across every element.
Simone mentioned that she’s aware of the current situation where blame is being assigned for the cancellation of the game. However, she clarified that the team she collaborated with at Monolith and WB were all eager and encouraging during their work together.
Various forms of entertainment, such as games, television series, films, and others, often encounter issues and fail to live up to expectations for numerous reasons, and the Wonder Woman game is no exception to this trend.
At times, you may put in your utmost effort but still not see success. Yet, that group was truly exceptional, and I can merely wish they keep producing outstanding games. Eventually, someone will recognize their talent and raise the bar within the industry, I’m confident of it. (Simone said)
2021 saw the announcement of Monolith’s upcoming Wonder Woman video game, but unfortunately, it was later cancelled. It is said that over $100 million had been invested in its development before this decision was made. The management confirmed the cancellation and closure of Monolith, stating that the game didn’t fit with Warner Bros.’ (WB) new strategic directions, despite DC franchise games being a key focus area for WB in their future gaming endeavors.
Warner Bros. (WB) is shifting its focus towards four significant franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones. This move involves developing a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, with WB Games Montreal potentially creating a new Game of Thrones title. Rocksteady could be planning a fresh single-player Batman game. In the realm of DC, studio head James Gunn hinted at some intriguing gaming projects in the pipeline, although they are not imminent. As for Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm Studios has yet to announce any new games, but it is anticipated that they will continue the series with a new installment eventually.
Beyond the termination of Wonder Woman and the closing of Monolith, Warner Bros. is also winding down Player First Games Studio and Warner Bros. San Diego. The MultiVersus game, in particular, will cease operation starting from May this year.
David Haddad, who has been leading Warner Bros. Games for quite some time, announced in January that he would be departing from the company. However, he plans to stick around for another three months to assist with the smooth transition to a new head. At this point, there is no designated successor for David Haddad.
