Fans of Star Wars are still waiting for a new theatrical release since Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, but internet chatter about upcoming projects doesn’t seem to stop. The latest buzz focuses on the possibility of a spin-off movie being developed by Lucasfilm. Speculations indicate that this potential film could delve into the origins of the sequel trilogy (Episodes VII-IX).
Star Wars rumored to be planning for spin-off film for mystery character
Based on information from well-known entertainment news source Daniel Richtman, there are plans to broaden the universe of the Star Wars sequel trilogy through the development of a standalone movie.
In his recent Patreon post, Richtman mentioned that Lucasfilm is considering a standalone movie connected to the sequel trilogy, but he didn’t reveal which character from episodes seven, eight, and nine will be at the helm of this project. The source stated ambiguously, “It’s unclear which character it will be.
To date, the Star Wars universe has included two standalone films: Rogue One (2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). At Disney Investor Day in 2020, it was announced that Lando would be the third spin-off in this enduring science fiction film series. Originally planned as a television show, this project has since evolved into a full-length movie.
The focus of recent news about Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover in Solo (the film starring Alden Ehrenreich), has been relatively quiet for almost two years, with no new positive developments reported.
As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’m eagerly waiting for an official announcement from Lucasfilm about the proposed spin-off trilogy of the Star Wars saga. Despite Daniel Richtman’s recent update, we haven’t heard anything concrete yet. However, I’m excited that the franchise is set to return to the big screen in 2026 with “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, marking the end of a seven-year absence from theaters. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Alongside the movie starring Pedro Pascal, production on both Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, headlined by Ryan Gosling, and James Mangold’s unnamed Star Wars film are also making significant strides.
Or, in a shorter form:
Progress is being made on the Pedro Pascal-led movie, as well as Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling and an untitled Star Wars project by James Mangold.
