The pace at which AI is being adopted within the broadcast sector has noticeably quickened, as indicated by data from Haivision’s 2025 Broadcast Transformation Report, a global survey of broadcasters published on Wednesday.
The study revealed that currently, a quarter of the broadcasters have adopted AI, which is a significant increase compared to the 9% of broadcasters who used AI as per the Haivision’s 2024 report.
In response to a question about factors affecting their industry over the next five years, 64% of respondents highlighted AI and its related technology, machine learning, as the most influential. This was closely followed by 5G, which was mentioned by 60% of participants. Approximately one-third (39%) identified SMPTE ST2110, a set of Internet Protocol (IP) delivery standards, while 28% cited 4K technology. Fewer respondents (8%) named 8K, and only 7% pointed to the next-generation broadcast standard called ATSC 3.0.
The most frequently cited advantages of AI in live production workflows, according to the survey, are increased efficiency and productivity due to automation (selected by 45% of respondents), as well as automatic translation and captioning (42%) and content generation (36%). Additionally, 35% of respondents mentioned object recognition for video indexing as a significant benefit.
Approximately 41% of broadcasters who currently don’t use AI expressed intentions to integrate AI into their broadcasting processes within the next two years. In contrast, about 48% of these broadcasters have no immediate plans for AI implementation.
The findings of the Haivision report, now in its sixth year, are derived from approximately 900 experts’ replies within the broadcast and media industries.
Marcus Schioler, vice president of marketing at Haivision (a company specializing in video networking and collaboration tools), commented on this year’s Broadcast Transformation Report. He noted that it highlights both the thrilling advancements and ongoing hurdles faced by broadcasters today. The report indicates the growing use of SRT, 5G, AI, and cloud technologies, with broadcasters adopting these innovations to boost efficiency, improve production quality, and secure their operations for the future.
