A Plague Tale 3 was supposed to be a surprise, but someone spoiled it, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a prequel to the popular series

Update (June 8th, 10:08 am PT)

Just as anticipated, during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, we unveiled the initial teaser for “Resonance: A Plague Tale’s Legacy,” a title that appears to corroborate the following details. Let me share them with you now:

In “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy“, you will join events that transpire fifteen years prior to those depicted in “Requiem”. You’ll assume the role of Sophie, a character familiar from the sequel, embarking on an expedition to the Island of the Minotaur. The journey is fraught with escape attempts and unraveling the mysteries of our past. Encounter dangerous adversaries, solve age-old enigmas, and encounter a legendary beast associated with a catastrophic curse.

This new take on the original text maintains the essence while making it more accessible to readers.

The medieval narrative is connected with an ancient tale from the Bronze Era that revolves around the Minoan civilization. Interestingly, Daedalus is referenced in the Steam game description. As for gameplay, it appears that the third installment leans heavily on intense battles, although sneaking will still be a component of the game, similar to A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Recently, the gaming community has encountered another unintentional reveal. This time it’s concerning “Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy,” a prospective addition, believed to be a prequel, in the beloved series produced by Asobo Studio.

On June 5th, the unexpected reveal of the game was posted on Threads platform (through TwistedVoxel) by the publisher’s official profile, Focus Entertainment. Although the graphic was swiftly removed, it had already spread online, disclosing some vital information such as the intended release year in 2026. The game is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Based on the leaked details, it appears that the main character for the upcoming game’s narrative won’t be Amicia de Rune, who was a key emotional figure in Innocence and Requiem together with her brother Hugo. Instead, the storyline will revolve around Sophia, a pirate smuggler and a character familiar to players from the sequel.

A brief video sequence, recently released, captures a portion of the character’s combat and an arena resembling the Roman Colosseum. The shot featuring the massive minotaur statue also piques curiosity.

As a die-hard fan of this popular gaming series, I can’t help but feel excited when I think about the possibility of a new installment. After all, Asobo Studio has hinted at their work on another project with job postings in 2022. So while it might not be an official announcement yet, the fact that they’re expanding their team suggests we could be in for a surprise soon!

It is expected that the newly announced game will make its official debut during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, which kicks off at 10:00 am Pacific Time.
