A New Secret “Ending” For Super Mario World Has Been Discovered, And It’s Grim

After 35 years, players are still discovering surprising things in the classic Super Mario World game for the SNES. Recently, they found a strange glitch where Yoshi can eat Princess Peach, after which Mario and Yoshi just stand there, seemingly forever.

The Super Mario Broth account on X recently highlighted a strange way to finish Super Mario World, which requires exploiting glitches in the game. For example, it’s normally impossible to have Yoshi in the final battle against Bowser. However, players can use a glitch to place Yoshi in the item storage box—where power-ups are usually kept. This sets up a bizarre sequence where Yoshi attempts to eat Peach while a mushroom is falling, effectively swapping the two. It’s a difficult trick to perform during the Bowser fight, but it leads to a very unusual ending.

By exploiting a few clever tricks in Super Mario World, it’s possible to bring Yoshi to the final showdown. If Yoshi eats Princess Peach after Bowser is defeated, it prevents the usual ending sequence, leaving Mario and Yoshi frozen in an infinite, silent stare.

Supper Mario Broth has a knack for finding funny, little-known details in Nintendo games. Just last September, they discovered that the Toad characters in Mario Kart World can actually steal cars!

The upcoming movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, releasing in theaters on April 3rd, will likely be the next time we see Mario, Peach, and Yoshi together on screen. Joining them will be new characters like Princess Rosalina and Yoshi.

Later this year, Yoshi will be headlining his own new game on Switch and the upcoming Switch 2! Nintendo revealed “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book” during their September 2025 Nintendo Direct presentation. This will be the first new Yoshi adventure since “Yoshi’s Crafted World” came out in 2019. And if you’re looking for classic Mario, remember that “Super Mario World” is available to play on both Switch consoles with a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
