As a seasoned gamer with decades of Nintendo adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that 2025 is shaping up to be a truly momentous year for us Metroid Prime enthusiasts! The long-awaited release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on Switch and the upcoming official art book, Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective, are two events that have my heart racing with excitement.
2025 marks a significant milestone for the Metroid Prime series. Not only does it see the release of the much-anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on Nintendo Switch, but fans can also anticipate the debut of an official art book dedicated to the original trilogy from renowned game-guide publisher Piggyback. Titled “Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective,” this 212-page hardcover edition is set for release in Summer 2025.
As per Piggbyback’s official declaration, the publishing house collaborated directly with Nintendo and Retro Studios to produce a comprehensive visual retrospective of Metroid Prime 1-3. This book includes various sketches, concept artworks, and illustrations from the original Metroid Prime, Prime 2: Echoes, Prime 3: Corruption, and the recent Metroid Prime Remastered on Switch. The artwork is accompanied by exclusive insights from Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe, along with Retro Studios, who have also penned a foreword for the book. Each section includes introductory text written by members of Retro Studios staff. This high-quality hardcover book is printed on premium art paper using stitch binding and features an embossed metallic cover art depicting Samus Aran’s famous Varia suit.
The book titled “The Official Art and Making of Metroid Prime 1-3” is scheduled to release for $50 in Summer 2025. At this moment, it’s not possible to pre-order the book, but based on Piggypack’s past book launches, we anticipate that it will become available on Amazon eventually.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can confidently say that if Piggyback’s previous works are any indication, Metroid fans have got something special coming their way. It’s not every day we get an in-depth look at the making of Nintendo games, and with Piggyback being behind some of the most impressive game guides from the past few years – like those for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which are currently among the coolest collectibles for Zelda fans – I’m genuinely excited about what’s to come. Other noteworthy titles in their portfolio include the guides for Cyberpunk 2077 and the upcoming official Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
