A New Borderlands Game Is In Development, Gearbox Reveals

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through countless virtual battles and loot-filled adventures across the cosmos, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Gearbox is indeed working on Borderlands 4! It’s been far too long since my Vault Hunter pals and I embarked on our quest for the next big bad guy. The tantalizing tidbits dropped by Randy Pitchford himself have me itching to strap on my favorite grenade mods once more.

For approximately five years now, enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating updates regarding the sequel of Borderlands 3. With the release of the Borderlands movie this week, gamers are once more on the lookout for any tidings about the upcoming installment. Fortunately, it’s official: Gearbox Software has announced that a new game in the series is currently being worked on.

During an interview, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed they are indeed developing a sequel for the Borderlands and Brothers in Arms series. He mentioned that they will reveal more details about their projects when it’s appropriate to do so. As of now, they are busy with multiple Borderlands and Brothers in Arms projects.

In simpler terms, the recent update from Pitchford in December 2024 could be seen as a stronger indication of Borderlands 4 than his earlier statement in July 2024 where he hinted at “many great things coming with Borderlands.” There were also whispers about a follow-up to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Regarding Brothers in Arms, Gearbox confirmed back in 2021 that a new game from the series is currently being developed.

Furthermore, Pitchford suggested that aside from their current projects, Gearbox might be working on new games based on titles like Risk of Rain and Duke Nukem. There’s a chance they could share updates about these potential games at Gamescom 2024, which is coming up later this month.
