According to actors Jack Black and Jason Momoa, Director Jared Hess’ A Minecraft Movie is exactly what the world needs at this moment. During the film’s premiere, Black referenced Burt Bacharach’s 1965 song “What The World Needs Now,” expressing his sentiment by saying, “We really need to work together.
This film is remarkable because amidst all the conflict, violence, and hostility that exist, it is filled with love and creativity. Although there are elements of anger and violence, the underlying themes revolve around friendship and unity in striving to improve our world.” (Said Black to The Hollywood Reporter)
Meanwhile, Momoa expressed that everyone could benefit from a brief escape, and perhaps a film based on Minecraft could offer just that.
“It’s nice to sit back and have a really fun adventure and giggle and laugh,” he said.
In the same conversation, Momoa expressed optimism that a Minecraft film would be successful both critically and commercially, allowing for a potential sequel to be made.
He assured us, “We won’t disappoint you. We’ve put in countless hours of effort for you, and I believe we’ve managed to breathe life into something extraordinary. I have a feeling everyone will appreciate it. There’s so much more to share; I merely hope the audience will be thrilled and allow us to create even more.
This coming Friday, April 4th, a Minecraft film will hit theaters, and predictions suggest it could match Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s performance in the U.S. Mark your calendars too for some exciting releases: HBO debuts The Last of Us Season 2 on April 13th, followed by Sony’s Until Dawn movie on April 25th. It seems like a video game enthusiast’s dream month with so many adaptations lined up!
Initial responses to the Minecraft film on social media are now surfacing, with viewers labeling it as both “disappointing” and “uncomfortable,” yet also “funny” and “clever.” This seems consistent with the mixed reactions typically garnered by films from Hess, a director whose past projects like Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre have left audiences divided.
