A Minecraft Movie Is The Biggest Hollywood Movie Of The Year With Over $800 Million

Once more over the weekend, A Minecraft Movie has proven its strength at box offices globally, surpassing the $800 million mark. This puts it ahead of all other Hollywood films this year, and there’s quite a gap between it and Captain America: A Brave New World in second place with earnings of $414.8 million, as reported by BoxOfficeMojo.

Over the weekend, a Minecraft movie earned $22.7 million domestically, placing it in fourth position. However, this was its fourth week on the big screen, so keep that in mind. Another video game adaptation, Until Dawn, premiered and collected $18 million globally during the same period.

Worldwide, the Minecraft film has currently grossed approximately $816.5 million according to BoxOfficeMojo, suggesting that it could potentially reach the $1 billion mark. For example, only a week ago, this Jack Black-led movie surpassed the $700 million milestone. However, keep in mind that Marvel’s The Thunderbolts is set to hit theaters later this week, presenting significant competition for the box office.

This month, a movie based on Minecraft surged up to become the second highest-earning video game film ever. It outperformed Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s global earnings of $462.5 million, but it may not manage to overtake The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s worldwide revenue of $1.36 billion.

Recently, Warner Bros. movie executive Jesse Ehrman discussed the potential for a follow-up film to The Minecraft Movie and the surprising trend of chicken jockeys. Interestingly, a warning notice was added before screenings in cinemas to prevent viewers from tossing popcorn and disturbing others during the film.
