Disney World is a hugely popular vacation spot in the US, and it’s seen its share of unusual events. The latest? A surprising theft that happened underwater, and the person responsible hasn’t been caught yet.
Police in Florida reported this week that a man stole up to $20,000 from Paddlefish, a well-known restaurant at Disney Springs near Disney World. According to authorities, the suspect swam to the restaurant after midnight on Monday, September 15th, while it was closed, and broke into the manager’s office.
According to authorities, the suspect robbed the business while money was being counted. He forced two employees to close their eyes and stand in a corner, then reportedly tied them up and stole between $10,000 and $20,000. The employees told police the robber was only inside for about two minutes before escaping, and they immediately called 911 after freeing themselves.
Paddlefish is a restaurant and bar built inside a steamboat on a lake. After an incident, the suspect swam away using scuba gear. Police searched the surrounding area but haven’t found them as of September 17th, and they are still at large.
During the robbery, the suspect reportedly used spray paint to hide a security camera.
