The upcoming game titled “Herdling,” developed by Okomotive, the creators of “Far: Lone Sails,” is set to arrive on consoles and PC this summer. However, players can get an early taste right now! The free demo for Herdling has been released on Steam, as revealed alongside a fresh gameplay trailer during the Future Games Show.
In the game Herdling, players take charge of an unnamed youngster, tasked with leading a group of magical, mammoth-like creatures called Calicorns back to their home. The player’s objective is to escort them safely, leveraging their assistance in solving puzzles along the way. Navigating these Calicorns from one point to another without losing any becomes a recurring challenge, as they may encounter tight passageways, train tracks, and other hazards (some of which can be lethal).
Last year at PAX West, I sampled an initial part of the game and have been eagerly awaiting its release ever since, with a mix of excitement and melancholy. It’s bound to be a poignant experience, there’s no denying it, but if there’s any chance to enjoy it without saying goodbye to my beloved video games, I’ll surely look for it. The game resembles Journey in that the goal is a distant mountain, and the journey towards it offers a captivating soundtrack and visually stunning landscapes to explore.
You can get the free trial of Herdling right here! We’re not sure if this demo will remain on Steam or be removed at some point, so if you’re curious about it, don’t wait. This summer, Herdling will be available for purchase on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PS5.
