As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that some props from the intriguing film “A Complete Unknown” will be showcased at the Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie Centers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as part of an exciting new exhibition titled “Stepping Into the Unknown.” This unique event marks the first time that an exhibit will be running simultaneously at both centers, starting on February 28. I can’t wait to immerse myself in this fascinating display!
In collaboration with Searchlight Pictures, the upcoming exhibit aims to shed light on the profound connection between two significant American songwriters. The initial scene of Timothée Chalamet’s biopic finds Dylan paying a visit to Guthrie (Scoot McNairy) in the hospital right after his arrival in New York City.
Among the movie props used in the film directed by James Mangold are Guthrie’s harmonica, a letter from Dylan to Guthrie, letters written by Johnny Cash to Dylan, lyrics for “Blowin’ in the Wind” scribbled on a bar napkin, and a collection of fake album covers depicting the actors (such as Chalamet and Elle Fanning’s version of “Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan”).

According to Steve Higgins, managing director of the American Song Archives, the connection between Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie is vital for comprehending 20th-century American music. This exhibition will further illuminate this tale by tying it to real-life artifacts from our collection.

Starting February 13, at noon Central Time, members can secure their complimentary tickets during a special pre-sale. Non-members can purchase their tickets from noon Central Time onwards, starting February 17.
